New Blog & Show
OK, so I have been lax in the posts and to an extent, the shows...and I apologize for that. Unfortunately, life and work called on me, and have taken quite a bit of my time that I wanted to dedicate to my online life.

Here is Show 9, more new troop talk, a bit about a chatroom discussion one night, and a recipe for a Dutch Oven classic...
Here is show 8, about my experience at camp with the current Webelos, soon to be the first members of my new troop...
Another awesome day, I will be home tomorrow with a full report...probably a show about it... We could be in for a storm tonight, gonna batten down the hatches...
...
It's 11:30, end of another great day...the boys really came together as a patrol, I am so lovin' this job! One downside...had an adult leader from another unit try to over-ride my authority of the boys...the boys were fine, he decided that it was his call to step in...needless to say, I don't think that…
Tasty stuff...
...
The boys are up and have been for an hour...it looks like it will be time later on today for that time honored tradition of the "Scoutmaster's Nap"...
Wow, that is all I can say. My scouts did awesome...this is why I do this...so content right now, I can't describe it...I love this job!!! G'nite, world...
...
So, I haven't had to mention how unsafe this is....sorry for the lack of posts...
I am on the road now...
So I decided to burn the midnight oil and get this show recorded before I go camping with Ethan. See you all soon, and have a great week, and I will try to update from camp, via Twitter or the blog...
Yesterday, I got my new Brunton Raptor Stoves, just plain awesome. I stopped and got fuel on the way home, so that I could try it out as soon as I got home. I opened the box, screwed on the canister, turned the valve, clicked the piezo-lighter and woosh!...I had flame...just plain cool.
Yup, 2 in a month...imagine that. The next to last show about the Commissioner's Service and a bit more about the troop. Click here to download
Here in Wisconsin, times seem to slow down quite a bit when it comes to activities. Why? I dunno. It may be due to folks just wanting to enjoy the sunshine and warmth, or because folks seem to go 100 MPH during the school year.
And so it is, here is Show 5...finally... Click HERE to download it...
Who influences the decisions that you make? Or are you a free thinker who needs little help or advice from anyone? I would say that I am one who uses guidance where needed, giving credit where credit is due. Today is one of those days, not because it's Memorial Day weekend or anything like that…
As we move into the summer months, now may be a time to take an inventory of what has transpired in the last "Scouting" year. I will take a personal inventory, and see what went well, what was OK, and what was not so good.
As I progress into the unknown world of scouting, I have made a few observations... 1. I haven't posted in almost a month, and I really needed to get something out... 2. Lack of direction with my posts, and lack of shows....even though I have 3 written, seems kind of moot to record them, as…
A guy with a Bear stopped by this AM, turned in an app to be the asst DL... What the heck? If you are a scouter, you know what I said, if not, you may be wondering... It's all in the language...I have seen people leave the program because they don't know what the heck…
Today is Scout Sunday for our faith, some faiths celebrate it next week, but I believe that most are today. Today, also, is one of the days that is more or less, specifically in line with being reverent. It was brought up at church by the priest, and mentioned in the halls before and after.
Tonight, Ms. Commish got handed her first difficult task as a Committee Chair... The "difficult boy"... This is harder for me, as I don't want her to be tested like this so early in her tenure, and as I have stated to her time and time again, I do what I do and say what…
I have found that through my new found free-time with the scouting program, that I don't always think about scouting anymore. I have taken to spending my time doing other things. I actually feel bad that I don't think about scouting as much as I did, although it was consuming a large amount of my…
Well, I did it...now I have 2 shows, but it will actually be 3, as this show is a two-part show. The topic for the show is Webelos to Scout Transition, but I had some help, with my good friends Commissioner Keith and Scoutmaster Jerry....we went so long that I made it into 2 shows…
Well, here it is...my first show... I talk a little about myself and answer a few questions that I was asked. You can listen by clicking HERE Click the pic and let me know if you like the new logo
Ethan had a den meeting the other night, Sam had the week off from Den meetings, only the pack meeting. We got to his den leaders house and I got set up. He had emailed me earlier in the week wanting to know if I would be interested in going over Boy Scout stuff with…
So most of you have read what I wrote my previous post...in a nutshell, the District Commissioner was wrong, and I decided to dedicate my energy to my wife's unit, instead of fighting someone who needs to be educated on district operations.
I have thought about it... George Bush isn't in office anymore, but he is still President Bush... So, I may not be in office, but I am still Commissioner Cleary.... More to follow
Once again, I have to say thanks to all the positive calls and feedback that I have received in regards to my situation. I want to quote an email that I recieved from "The Hawk" "I feel that we are diminished by the loss of your voice in this position, but I am hopeful that…
As you may all know, I have undergone some major changes in my life within the last 2 weeks...almost getting a divorce, resigning as The Commish are a couple that come to mind. Another one is my faith...I have found my way back to God.
As you may see, I have a new blog logo...not that my hand was forced, but I had to do what is right. The District Commissioner called a meeting and decided that he no longer wanted me on staff, a move that was unfounded and a personal attack on yours truly.
A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were discussing their lives at a class reunion. They decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired, who was always an inspiration to them. During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work, lives and relationships.
I love Calvin and Hobbs, so I inserted a couple of my favorite cartoons
As I was chatting the other night with Jerry, we got to talking about the program, mine and his, and on to the topic of venturing. From a previous post of mine, I mentioned that some of the boys from the troop asked about starting a Crew...I thought for all of about 2 seconds and…
On to the Cubbies, not the ones from Chicago, but the Cub Scouts...the Little Boys in Blue. No, they aren't mini-cops or mini-soldiers, but I heard that phrase somewhere and I kind of like it. Parents out there look for resources and places on the net to get all the information for the Cub program.
It's true...in the bible, it says "In the big-inning..." The beginning...Cub Scouts. About 95% of the boys that are Eagle Scouts, started out as Cub Scouts. It's rare for the most part that a boy joins Boy Scouts without having experienced Cub Scouts...not an opinion, more of a fact, but not what I am here…
So I was commenting about the paperwork that is involved in doing a re-charter. You may be saying that "there isn't that much that is involved.." but there is. When your leaders are going through the information for the unit, some time and energy should be set aside as to how to fix some of…
I have received a bit of email and some encouraging comments...I just wanted to update everyone and let you know that I can be found on iTunes, by going to the Podcast homepage and typing in Commissioner's Corner in the search...
No major words of wisdom for today...gonna take a break from it. I think that my readers will understand that I don't have words of wisdom everyday, but today is special... It's Ms. Commish's Birthday today... It's also Sam's Birthday... So happy birthday, to both of you...I love you both...
No, not me...Little Joe...my son...just loves that little lemur or rodent thing from Madagascar. Joe isn't a fool, more like a goofy, little 3 year old boy that doesn't know what it means to feel embarassed by dancing around, as we say, like a fool...
This is the time of year, where families get together, eat too much and talk about how bad things have been over the course of the year, and how much better next year will be. Well, it's next year, and what are you going to do about making the changes?
No, not our president elect, and this is a scouter forum. I have my political views, but chose not to expose them here. What I am talking about are den chiefs... A position that is overlooked as another leadership requirement for Boy Scouts or for a den leader to have a babysitter.
No quirky taglines, no movie references or anything of that nature... I have to take a break for a bit...not due to burnout, not due to any one thing, but a combination of things. I will still be blogging, but maybe more about being a dad, not The Commish...
To go back to the last post about troop shopping, I don't want people to think that I am always right, I am not...I want parents to know that they have a choice. We all worry about our son's future, but with scouting, you have that choice...and that is something that you can do with…
Here is show number 3... I talk about the history of the Unit Commissioner and have a recorded interview with my friend, Keith, who is an Assistant District Commissioner. You can listen by clicking here Sorry about the sound quality, still working out the bugs
Ok, so I thought about the fact that I haven't had an actual post in almost 2 weeks, so I thought that I would catch a quick one 'tween Christmas and New Year's. It's not that I haven't forgotten, or don't care, I have some irons in the fire, and to be honest, with the…
No, this isn't a rant about the usual Commish issues or a Simon & Garfunkel song, it's about that time of the year, to start planning the Blue & Gold dinner to celebrate the anniversary of scouting. This is also when a lot of boys cross over to a Boy Scout troop, hopefully one that they have…
Last night, I was at the Commish meeting, with the other Commishes, and we were talking more about this and that, the re-charter process, and a few words from the Council Scout Executive, who has been making his rounds to the different districts in the council.
