20 Vote On Idea It seems a little confusing that volunteers can't have one member ID number that follows them through their lifetimes like a social security number. Being in a district that borders two other councils, I have several volunteers with multiple IDs which creates more work for them in transferring training records, advancement…
-3 Vote On Idea A couple of customers have asked for a beret. With a BS logo, the centennial logo or Jamboree would be great. Comments (1) Boy Scouting
2 Vote On Idea I have noticed that the BSA has many wonderful and informative posters/poster sets at the Scout Shop that I visit. The problem is that unless I purchase the poster/poster set, I can't tell what information is contained on the poster as they are wrapped in plastic.
6 Vote On Idea It has been a struggle to pull together all of the neccesary information for the Centennial Quality Unit Award. To verify that Unit goals have been met you need to pull many different reports; Direct Contact Leader Trained, Unit retention, New members, and Advancement).
1 Vote On Idea The big picture is about "Engaging Young Minds" (Scouts) by starting National (local) Boy Scout Engineering & Pioneering Competitions, much like Don Murphy did for the Cub Scouts by inventing the Derby Car Races. www.PioneeringCompetitions.com is a site with puzzle boards that create a foundation to help with five different Boy Scout…
6 Vote On Idea Scouting.org is full of useful information for Parents, Scouts, Scouters, Alumni and everyone else. The one thing that it needs is a "Contact Us" tab with the National Office's contact information. Parents, Scouts, Scouters, Alumni, contact the National Office on a daily basis, but have trouble finding the main number on…
5 Vote On Idea With the new update of Sellwise they broke a key function. With the new update when searching for names the F6 key no longer works unless you manually click it with the mouse. I know it does not seem like a lot but when you are receipting membership and you have…
5 Vote On Idea For the New Cub Scouting program to be launched in 2010, I recommend we bring back the "Lion" rank for first year, fourth grade Webelos Scouts. This "King of the Jungle" rank is a fitting conclusion to a Cub Scout's "Kipling" adventure and career.
1 Vote On Idea There should be some identification insignia or something for Adult Leaders that are Veterans, like the knot insignias. Comments (0) Other
0 Vote On Idea Our units consider September the start of the Scouting year and the award would work better if goals were established in the August-mid/October time frame with awards presented in the May/June time frame. Often times we have a different leadership team that takes over during the summer and there is no…
8 Vote On Idea This was submitted to me by a volunteer. I am not sure who is the right person to contact, but I had a suggestion to improve the Online Tour Permit tool. As I believe that information should be managed and entered in one location only, such as Packmaster / Troopmaster, it would…
27 Vote On Idea From a volunteer: Is there any way National BSA can color code the applications to tell parents (or applicants) fill out everything highlighted in yellow (or something) and unit leaders fill out the information highlighted in blue (or whatever color) ?
11 Vote On Idea Recognizing they are about to release new Cub Scout Leader material/guides it would have been nice to continue to make available through Supply the Cub Scout Leader How-To Book, Cub Scout Leader Book, Cub Scout Academics & Sports Program Guide and Cub Scout Ceremonies for Dens and Packs until the debut of…
0 Vote On Idea Many of you now have seen the marketing guidelines produced by the national council. I believe that this piece is a tremendous resource and definitely helps local councils to better communicate the "brand" of Scouting in a unified way.
0 Vote On Idea How about a 'new board member' recruiting packet along the lines of a new unit packet. A slick folder with inserts; all nationally branded and templates for council specific pages. Just a thought as I struggle to put something together locally that I'm sure 1000 other SE have already done.
6 Vote On Idea ((submitted by Jack Getkin Jr., Venturing Chairman, Greater Pittsburgh Council)) As a 10-1/2 year old Webelos Scout in the mid 1960's, I remember looking forward to joining a Boy Scout troop and doing Boy Scout activities.
-1 Vote On Idea How about an option to set a default billing date for a prospect? Examples: ABC Company makes their pledge early in the year, but always wants to be billed November 1. For whatever reason, that preference is not relayed.
1 Vote On Idea Make the adult background check disclosure statement part of the main body of the application. As it is now, many pass it by, thinking it's only the application cover, and they fill out the application. The current form gets detached and separated, and is often missing from the submitted application.
0 Vote On Idea Boy Scout and Varsity Scout leaders are required to attend an Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) course in order to earn their "Trained" patch. IOLS is a terrific resource for Boy Scout leaders, particularly Assistant Scoutmasters working with New Scout Patrols, helping them earn "First Class-First Year".
2 Vote On Idea I Know It Would Be a Blessing to put the Access Code for Online Rechartering right on the Charter. Thank you Comments (0) Applications & Registration , rechartering
16 Vote On Idea There seems to be no single source to find out changes to the BSA overall. Scouting.org is adding new links, and MyScouting is adding new classes. There's the 100th Anniversary page which adds links and PSA's constantly and changes to the Cub Scout 2010 program are happening.
5 Vote On Idea Having been eclipsed by Venturing, few Scouters now understand how Varsity Scouting fits into the "family" of BSA programs. Terminology like "Team", "Coach", "Captain", etc all make it sound like more Little League than Scouting. Not really a "sports" program at all, Varsity Scouting is used almost exclusively by the LDS…
13 Vote On Idea This year we not only provided yard signs to our packs, but we used Microsoft MapPoint software to plot where all our member families lived. (See Techsoup.org for a very inexpensive source of Microsoft software for 501-c-3 agencies.)
9 Vote On Idea I like the new feature on MyBSA to be able to track the number of new youth, but would it be possible to drill down the data all the way to the unit or possibly for the Cub Scouts, the den level?
3 Vote On Idea I believe our professional staff should go through all of the training that the Volunteers do so that when a Volunteer ask's them a Scouting related question, they can actually get an answer! An added benefit would be that the Professional staff would understand how committed the Volunteers are to the…
0 Vote On Idea Currently the requirements for a District Executive to receive a Trained strip require approximately three years of service and completion of PD-L1, PD-L2, and PD-L3. Often DE's leave the profession before ever earning their "Trained" status.
0 Vote On Idea The internet rechartering system allows units using Pack/Troop Master to upload the information from their program into ours. Most units will use nicknames and shortened names for their members. We, at the council level do not.
2 Vote On Idea Idea from Shaun Reeves, Den 4 Leader, Pack 776 Quivira Council, Woodbadge C-39-09 Bobwhite We should create an award for military appreciation, meaning a pin, knot, or something that signifies that a person served. I feel that this is should be an important award that shows someone's service to our great…
1 Vote On Idea My guess is this may already be in the works, but it would be great if a new updated version of the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training was created. It could even be distributed in an electronic format.
5 Vote On Idea Can you imagine would it would be like for all employed in BSA longer than 10 years to receive in appreciation for their time, service and committment, to be given one extra week for every ten years of service?
0 Vote On Idea I am not sure if this functionality is available, so please comment on how to access it if it is! I think we could empower families to "take action" when there is a problem within a unit if we were able to send a template email to each email address entered…
5 Vote On Idea Switch is a pilot program created to focus on the health and wellness of Cub Scout families. The program focuses on changing the scout's behavior by reducing their screen time (computer and TV); increasing physical activity; and increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables eaten.
12 Vote On Idea I noticed in working with my volunteers on the Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training that the First Class-First Year tracking sheet is out of date. It is missing several updated requirements that have been added in the last few years.
6 Vote On Idea Our Scouts would love to see a Spelunking Merit Badge. They have gone caving twice with professional spelunkers and Loved it! They have asked me about a caving badge and I have not even found a 'fun patch' for them.
0 Vote On Idea It would be very helpful to have an Advancement Percentage instead of just the raw number of advancement on the District Advancement report. If a pack has 10 advancements in a year is that good or bad?
0 Vote On Idea We need to create a new magazine that is coed based. The name Boys' Life immediately excludes girls from reading the magazine. Boys' Life has great content and well written articles, which that age group can relate too, but we need to refocus a version to be coed and expand the…
0 Vote On Idea When trying to input a new Unit Leader, CC, or CR, ScoutNET will not allow it if the unit already has someone registered in that position. This forces me to have to go in and manually change the position of the current Unit Leader, CC or CR before I can enter…
0 Vote On Idea The parking lot is in desperate need of a "face lift". The way the parking lot is now, there are too many opportunites for people to fall and sometimes seriously hurt themselves. Comments (1) Miscellaneous
0 Vote On Idea I propose to make Triathlon a merit badge. Swimming, biking and running are life long skills that every boy should know. There are many other elements involved in the sport. One must be prepared at any distance during a triathlon.
1 Vote On Idea We are in the process of offering Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training. I've noticed there is some information in it that is inaccurate or needing updating because of updates to the program in the last few years and the updates coming in the future.
6 Vote On Idea Merging names is USUALLY easy. It is supposed to move ALL information into the remaining name. This is NOT so!! If there is a middle name/initial in the name being merged (not the remaining name), that infomation is not copied into the remaining name. Why isn't this happening? Comments (0) Technology
1 Vote On Idea When running the District Advancement Report it would be nice to have the opption to sort by district by unit number. Comments (0) Other
3 Vote On Idea It would be nice if all of the BSA sites that require user names and passwords would allow us to use the same combination we use to access MyBSA. Comments (0) Technology
3 Vote On Idea Update the individual Scout record form to match the 2009 Boy Scout Handbook. Comments (0) Boy Scouting
3 Vote On Idea Innovation Engine vote count used to let you hover your mouse over the 'Vote Up/Vote Down' box and it would show you the number voting up and the number voting down. This would let you know if the +10 were actually 10 people were voting something up or if 100 were…
12 Vote On Idea Is there a way that we can have the Policy and Procedure Manual as an E-Manual, this would save a lot of ink, paper, and less use of the printer which would save money in the shops budget.
9 Vote On Idea With the increasing popularity of the food network and the fact that almost every local television station has it's own food spot on a morning or weekend news program there is a market here to reach out to.
0 Vote On Idea As an employ of an organization that touts reduce, reuse, recycle it would be great if the national organization created a partnership with a recycling company. Many states provide free outdoor recycle bins, however finding the smaller version for your desk at no cost is impossible.
2 Vote On Idea Let me access advancement off of Mybsa.org from a home PC (where I work out of). I'm a DE and can't get information to my Advancement chairman without having to go through the registar. Comments (0) District and Council Operations
