October 2, 2012. A Life Scout sat waiting his turn as myself and two others talked to his Advocate, His Father and finally him. We had reviewed all the documents and his project. All were in order. His journey was filled with firsts and with service to others. A 50 miler at the age of
This weekend five of the now ten Webelos II Scouts called "Tree Scouts" went for an overnight at the Butte Creek Scout Ranch in Cascade Pacific Council. The goal was to work on the Outdoorsman requirements. During the years summercamp at Adventure Cove some requirements were met. Our fearless Webelos II Den Leader worked out
Today, was my training day off. I had signed up to take AED and re-certify on First Aid /CPR. I got it done. I am good for the next two years. I am a tad early for First Aid/CPR since it's up in December, but why wait. Never had AED and that bothered me. Getting
This is the 400th post on Scouteradam. I started it back in 2009 and now over three years later it's still going strong. At about 38,682 views (since moving from Blogger to WordPress) later as I type this it's been a great journey. I am not leaving and this blog is not going to fade.
I now have been at 5 Join Nights at the Pack. I joined the first one, and got nervous at the rest. I should have this down, and I think that I do but every Join Night is different. The Tally: 9 Tigers (including Mission Possible‘s) 12 Wolves (8 returning + 4 new) 12 Bears
My never-ending quest for knowledge has not ended. While I am not in the Boy Scout program, I will be after March 23rd 2013. I took the Eagle Board Chair class today (9/22/12) to better aquaint myself with how not only a Board of Review operates, but how an Eagle Board of Review. I went
Reblogged from Scouteradam's Blog: This weekend was our first Pumpkin Derby. Another Pack within the District has done it for a couple of years now, and so, I used their idea. I had wanted to do a JOTA/JOTI event for the past couple of years. Each year I work on it, nothing happens. I have
I am posting this to those who read this blog to help out a fellow Scouter get a really cool shirt made. No one is profiting from this endeavour except the people who order and wear the shirt. Be the hit of your next Camporee, Troop Hike, Wood Badge or Roundtable. You know you want
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." ~ Ferris Bueller Yes, life does move fast and we need to slow down and enjoy the little things. I wrote about it in January on this blog. It still holds true. It's not about being
Tuesday night, Elliot and his buddy went to their first Troop visit. It was his first foray into Troop Life. While he has been around Boy Scouts before, this was the first meeting. Yes, he went to Webelos Woods in 2011. He went to a day of a Camporee at Wapiti in 2009 as a
This is the final year for Elliot before he crosses over into a Boy Scout Troop. The focus is generally on Webelos Activity Pins. The other focus is learning the Scout Oath & Law. As well as several other items needed to earn the Arrow of Light. Just like in Boy Scouts, Cub scouts can
I took my 2nd grade daughter, Rachel to the Girl Scout Shop. She needed her Brownie Vest, Troop Numbers and other stuff. She got a T-shirt and hat too. I also got her a couple of patches. It's the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts this year, and dadgummit she needed those patches”¦ I also
Standing in the middle of nowhere, Wondering how to begin. Lost between tomorrow and yesterday, Between now and then. And now we're back where we started, Here we go round again. Day after day I get up and I say I better do it again. -written by Ray Davies of The Kinks We are now
It is the season in the Cubscout world that Packs are starting up. Some are already going due to the school calendar. Within Cascade Pacific Council, there is a huge push for getting Tigers and Wolves. It is called Mission Possible. So, today as I was checking Twitter today, I found a great video
This weekend wrapped up Pack 221′s Summertime Pack Award for the 2012 Summer. Which, is my last one with the Pack as I crossover with Elliot in 2013. I did not realize this until the other day. The 2009 Summer was my first with the Pack. I realized that we were not doing Summertime
Sunday, was our last Cubmaster Hike of the whole program. I know that I will do more of them. But for now, since Summer is basically over, so are they. I first wrote about this in March 2012. My goal was to get out to places that I had never been. I wanted
Scouts play games. A lot of Games. But, here is my question. Scouts will bring games to a campout or outings or summer camp. I have listed a few of them here. You can suggest others that I have not listed. What do you see Scouts play. I am only after board or card games.
Reblogged from A Scouter's Journey: Much like the Order of the Arrow and Woodbadge, within ShelterBox training there is an element of keeping the details to yourself as not to spoil it for future participants. What I can tell you is that the past week has been mentally and physically exhausting (as promised); and I
This fall mark's Elliot's last year in Cubscouts. He started in 2008. He will transition to a Boy Scout Troop in March. Also, this fall, is the first year for many boys who become Tigers. They are so very small and bouncy! I follow many blogs and get several email subscriptions. One of them
A parent of two Scouts in the Pack just posted this on her Facebook Page. It talks about raising successful children. Being a Scouter, I saw many Scout Parents flash through my brain as I read it. The reality is, there are many parents who hover over their kids making sure that "THEY" do it
My only incident that really set me off was with another Akela within our Campsite. This camp is five nights and six days. All other Camps were two nights and three days. It is a very long time to be away from home, for everyone. So, this incident came towards the end of Camp. This
The Cascade Pacific Council has Cubscout camps that help transition Cub Scouts from Tigers to Webelos II and then onto the Boy Scout program. Adventure Cove at Camp Clark is the last in this transition. Camp Meriweather is next door. I have been to all four camps with the boys since they were

I know that this blog is read by a few Troops within the district. Please do not read anything into this post. It has been about fours years since Elliot started Cubscouts with Pack 221. He is now a Webelos II. I have been the Tiger Den Leader and now am entering my last year
Hello all: I had a great time and opportunity to be on this Podcast. It was a very quick 30 minutes show. We crammed a lot of great info. If you have a child on the Spectrum, please check them out. If you're a Scouter and you need more information about being on the Spectrum
Recently, I took Wilderness First Aid. I ended up using it when my daughter had a bad accident. I realized that my First Aid Kit sucks. Next week I am off with the "Tree Scouts" aka P221 Webelos II to Adventure Cove for 5 nights. This being the case, I needed to get my kit
This weekend the Pack had two outings. One was for the Summertime Pack Award, and the other was Cubmaster Hike #4 to the Portland Audubon Society. Both actually counted for Summertime Pack. Our family was not able to go to the Bike Outing due to Rachel's accident and the fact that both of the Kids
Recently, the Boy Scouts of America has reaffirmed their place on the membership requirements. It comes on the heels of a recent petition submitted to the BSA by an Eagle Scout whose parents are lesbian. Which dealt with the issue of a now former Tiger Den Leader who is a lesbian. The Boy Scouts of
In and earlier posting about being ready, I made a statement right at the end of "It's not a Scout thing". I want to say that I know what I was saying at this point, and the closest that I can come to putting it down in words is, my reaction was not based upon
This last week the family took off to The Treesort in Southern Oregon. Think of Ewoks, maybe a Hobbit and Tree forts and you got it. Oh, and throw in a bunch of hippies and vegans. It's a nice place. The family and two others from the elementary school spent Monday to Friday there. First
In 2007 at the occasion of the 100 anniversary of the Scout Movement, the Austrian Scout Association declared August 1 a "National Scout Scarf Day" and asked all active and former scouts to wear their scout scarfs in public. Many people including prominent business persons followed the call and thus made the spirit of scouting
My wife and I took the kids to the Oregon Zoo on Saturday. We had not been there for years. It was a great place to take them when they were little and also the Grandparents when they visited. The Zoo has updated and changed a lot since the years. We took about 4.5 hours
In several past post‘s I have talked about Knots that are either awarded or earned by an Adult Volunteer. I also wrote an email to the BSA directly about their changing of the knots. I got a tad grumpy about it. In the past couple of weeks this Summer, the BSA has now come out
Here is the video of my descent to downtown Portland from the US Bankcorp Tower. I wrote a blog about it that explains more about the event. There is also a more professional one done as well. Jerry is in both videos.
June 30th was the Cubmaster Hike #3 just outside of Carson, WA in the Wind River area. This was a great 1.5 mile hike in a place that my family has ever been. It was very flat and easy with no up or down. I wanted to find the Wind River Crane section, but due
Today (June 29th) was the day for the Cascade Pacific Council's OVER THE EDGE Event. At my count via an Excel spreadsheet, there were 50 Edgers that went over. The total amount raised is about $120,000. I had 42 people who donated in my name to help make this happen. You would have not gotten
This weekend I tool the Wilderness First Aid class through REI and Wilderness Medicine Institute in Portland, OR. It was located at the Audubon Society of Portland. I am still a Cubmaster and Cubscouts don't go to Philmont or do high adventure. So, why did I take it? I took this class since we do
The past few days, I have thought about what Wood Badge teaches you. I am reminded of the tenets of Wood Badge, which I have my Challenge Coin to help. Bring the Vision to Life. Leading to make a difference. Models for success. Living the Values. Tools of the Trade. The goal of Wood Badge,
I got this from a Scouts Canada Facebook Page that I am apart of. It does not matter that this camp is in Canada, nor the Scouts are Canadian. It's CAMP and Scouts! Pure Awesomeness…. Camp is sweet freedom.
I found and downloaded the new First Aid App from the American Red Cross on Thursday. I am a huge fan of the Red Cross. I give blood and do Apherisis through them. I also have my First Aid and CPR certification through their local Chapter in Portland. This App is available on both the
As of this posting, were are 43 people who donated to Over The Edge fundraiser to allow me to rappel down a large pink bank tower in Portland, OR. Thank you to all of you. These people are special in many ways. I am not going to name them directly, but I will describe them.
Below is an email that my wife wrote out for me to send to the Parents within the Pack that I am the Cubmaster for. Since I have the list of emails for the entire Pack, I steadfastly held out on pelting them with requests of donating to what I am doing. I did not
Monday was the graduation of Rachel's Girl Scouts Troop from Daisy to Brownies. I am very proud of her. She really likes Girl Scouts and has a lot of fun. All her friends are in it. Her Troop Leader is from the UK and was a Girl Guide growing up. Her son is a brand
Portland has the oldest Children's Parade in the USA. It's 76 years old and going strong. Pack 221 has been the Color Guard for 21 of those years. Our tradition was started by a Den Mother who got the entire Pack out with Floats to it for several years. We got the Lead because one
Our final Pack Meeting was on June 4th. It was a complete blast. Member's of the 501st Cloud City Garrison helped with the final Flag Ceremony and Pack Promotion. We wanted to end the year with a big send-off and the 501st helped make it happen. As with tradition, we made sure each remaining award
Tonight was our last Pack Meeting of 2011-2012. I will blog more about it later. We are here for the boys. I cannot do it without Volunteers like these fine folks. See you in the fall.
I am hoping you can help me to reach my goal of $2500 to go OVER THE EDGE on June 29th at the US BankCorp Tower for Scouting in the Cascade Pacific Council. I am $1235 away from going OVER THE EDGE. I need $2500 Currently I am half way to my goal. However, I
Reblogged from Scouteradam's Blog: During our Blue & Gold this year, I had the boys write letters on BSA letterhead that I downloaded from scouting.org to the military. One of my High School friends, who is an Eagle and serves in the Air Force as a pilot was recently deployed overseas. I had asked him
