A Scout Is Thrifty (opens in a new tab)

Lone Star Scouter ·

Well this is interesting. I came to post this scout law element this morning all prepared with a joke about how I should have posted it before you all bought overpriced roses. However, for the first time, I was surprised with one of the definitions listed so I'm going with that instead.

Lone Star Scouter ·

It makes you cheerful that I'm continuing this series of posts. Come on, you can admit it. This seems like such an easy element of the scout law for the scouts to live up to? Then tell me why it is that so many of so many don't always appear to do it?

Discipline (opens in a new tab)

Lone Star Scouter ·

Discipline is a part of leadership, and a good leader keeps that in mind. It isn't always pleasant, but it is necessary, and if done in a spirit of love and concern, all are better because of it. Sometimes we need to be reminded that there are two reasons why a leader must discipline those…

A Scout Is Obedient (opens in a new tab)

Lone Star Scouter ·

Funny story. When I was teaching my older son's 5th grade Webelos den the Scout Law five years ago, they would get stuck. A believer in word play for memorization, I reminded them all they were ‘kind of obedient' to get them over the hump and so they would always remember what comes after Kind.

Reflection (opens in a new tab)

Lone Star Scouter ·

At our Venture Round table tonight after the first hour my mind started to drift away from the conversation we were having about scuba diving and how each crew is different. I started reflecting back to all the years I spent in Scouting with my son from the night we signed him up as a…

To Be Physically Strong (opens in a new tab)

Lone Star Scouter ·

Hmmm”¦ We all tell the scouts to live by the scout oath, but sadly, I'm afraid we don't always practice what we preach. While I'm certainly in far better physical condition than I was two years ago, I have a very long way to go.

A Positive Attitude (opens in a new tab)

I, Colleen, am a scoutaholic. It has been two days since my last meeting. To set the stage, I'll fill you in on the background of what has led to this confession. I've been nursing, what I'll lovingly call the Houston Crud (aka a cold caused by daily shifts between 40 & 80 degree highs) since…

A Scout is Kind (opens in a new tab)

Lone Star Scouter ·

Kind isn't something we do only when someone can see us. Kind is more of a state of being and it comes from the heart. A kind nature is just that, it isn't something we can create. If someone pretends to be kind, but isn't, it show itself sooner than later.

Committee Chairs Breaking Loose (opens in a new tab)

Lone Star Scouter ·

Regardless of the scouting unit level, a pack, troop, or crew all need those people behind the scenes who take on the business portion of the scouts. More often than not, we think of our committee chairs, and the members that sit with them, to be the serious parents in the troop.
