Friday's Name That Council patch depicted a stark landscape, which meant clues were in short supply. But 35 stellar sleuths sniffed out the correct answer anyway and identified the Northwest Texas Council , headquartered in Wichita Falls, Tex. We took those correct responses and used a random-number generator to find our winner, Geoff Heintzelman of the…
Just in time for the start of the program year, Position-Specific Training is now available for Cub Scout leaders. The training courses have been updated to reflect the new Cub Scout delivery method, which Scouting magazine introduced to you in our May-June issue .
Alex Lloyd knows something about perseverance. He vaulted from 22nd to 10th place in the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma on Aug. 22, a comeback that required hard work from Lloyd and his BSA Motorsports team. Lloyd's latest comeback, though, came thanks to the hard work of Scouts and Scouters like you.
Scouts, Scouters, parents, and non-Scouts everywhere will unite next month to honor the Americans who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Scout Surge 9/11 is being billed as an opportunity for remembering the victims of the attacks nine years ago while also celebrating the patriotism on which this nation was built.
Win a free patch if you can Name That Council (Aug. 27, 2010)
You might "strike gold" if you can tell us the name of the council that wears the patch above. We've removed all text, leaving behind only the desert landscape. Do you have enough clues to guess the council's name? Send us your thought, and we'll select one lucky winner at random to receive the patch…
More than 500 million people now know that Facebook is a great way to reconnect with old friends, but it's becoming more and more popular as a recruiting tool for packs, troops, and crews. Does your unit have a Facebook page?
Help Alex Lloyd win the "Firestone Tire-ific Move of the Race"
Alex Lloyd's task was daunting. After qualifying 22nd out of 25 racers for Sunday's Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, he wanted to move his No. 19 car from the back of the pack to a good finish. Mission accomplished. Thanks to hard work overnight to improve Lloyd's car, the BSA Motorsports and Dale Coyne Racing…

One way to beat the workday blues is daydreaming about spending a week at one of the Boy Scouts of America's three (and soon four ) excellent high-adventure bases. If it's Philmont Scout Ranch that fills your daydreams, today is your lucky day.
Mike Rowe is funny. Whether he's advocating the removal of the word Clean from the Scout Law or addressing 70,000 Scouts and Scouters as the Ambassador of Dirt, he knows how to make people chuckle. Well, he's at it again in a new video, seen above.
After a final count, it's official: 43,434 people attended the 2010 National Scout Jamboree, making it the most-attended jamboree since 1973. As many of you may remember, the '73 event was held on separate sites, one in Idaho and one in Pennsylvania, which helped boost the numbers.
We're impressed by anyone who volunteers time to the Boy Scouts of America, but when we heard about Tom Lehmier, who has been involved in Scouting for 75 years, we had to stop and share his story with you. Lehmier joined Troop 72 in Bakerton, Pa., in 1935.
Statue honors Ben Nelson, Distinguished Eagle Scout and Nebraska senator
A mother pinning the Eagle Scout Award on her son's uniform is one of those picture-perfect Scouting moments. And for Ben Nelson, senior U.S. Senator from Nebraska and Distinguished Eagle Scout, an image of that moment has been forever preserved by a new statue created to honor him.
All good things must come to an end, unfortunately. And the BSA's series of Adventure Base 100 videos were 29 great things for Scouting. Each short video showcased a stop on the traveling exhibit's tour of the country. Above you'll see the final video, shot at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree and in Washington, D.C.

Scouts and Scouters weren't the only ones who left the 2010 National Scout Jamboree with a head full of great memories. The men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who helped run the event also shared in the celebration.
Even amid the chaos of more than 4,000 visitors a day, there was something peaceful about Fish Hook Lake, the spot at the jamboree for amateur anglers to get their fix. Scouts, Scouters, and visitors lined the shores, casting their lines into the calm water while hoping to snag a catfish, bass, or panfish.
How about a little something to fill that post-jamboree emptiness? This event was by far the most-connected jamboree in history. Hundreds of thousands of videos, photos, blog posts, Tweets, Facebook updates, and text messages were sent out of Fort A.P.
Have your guys start practicing "Taps," because Bugling is here to stay. In early June, we reported that the Bugling merit badge was to be discontinued and its requirements merged into Music merit badge. That's no longer the case. Responding to concerns from hundreds of Scouters, the BSA's Youth Development team has decided to reinstate…

Scouts pull a patrolmate into the air on the "Flying Squirrel." A leader watches a confident climber on the "Caterpillar." At the Boys' Life exhibit, Pedro enjoys an afternoon snack. Scouts learn to breathe underwater at the Discover Scuba event.
Mike Rowe knows a thing or two about uncomfortable situations. But speaking in front of 70,000 fellow Scouts at the jamboree apparently isn't one of them. The host of "Dirty Jobs" has often squirmed while trying some of the country's least-desirable professions.
Gretchen Bleiler, the 2006 Olympic silver medalist in snowboard halfpipe, visited the mountain boarding event on Saturday at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree. She answered questions from a large crowd and signed autographs for hundreds of Scouts. Also, as seen above, Bleiler did an interview with QBSA, the jamboree's radio station.
Housed inside a secure location at Fort A.P. Hill is a building that few get to enter. It's not on any map, and most staff, participants, and visitors don't even know it exists. But behind a tall, barbed-wire fence and inside a nondescript white building is a communications nerve center.
Scouts at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree are getting a hands-on sneak peek at an exciting upcoming merit badge by visiting the Robotics tent inside Merit Badge Midway. The badge won't be available to earn until April, but that didn't stop a steady stream of Scouts from dropping by to get some one-on-one time with…

At the Technology Quest exhibit, a Scout learns that mixing corn starch and water creates a liquid substance that isn't solid but is firm enough to run across. Creating a BSA logo out of Lego pieces is a painstaking, but rewarding, process.
By the time you're 100 feet below the surface, have squeezed through a narrow cave, and are getting rained on as you cross a monkey bridge in a lush rainforest, it's pretty clear that you're in uncharted territory. That's the idea behind more than just the innovative Venturing exhibit at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree.
The Order of the Arrow's attraction at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree is so secret that we were only given a very limited tour. To keep the mystery and intrigue, half of the content of the "Mysterium Compass" show is shrouded in secrecy and only open to Jamboree participants under the age of 18.
There are so many world records that are extremely dangerous (longest distance jumped by motorcycle; deepest scuba dive) that it's nice to see one that's for saving lives instead of endangering them. That was the goal behind today's attempt at breaking the record for CPR and AED training taking place at one time.
Today we saw Scouts testing out a radio-controlled pirate ship, world-famous author Michael Scott answering questions from Scout reporters at the Hometown News tent, and participants leaving their handprints on giant blocks that will have an important meaning later in the jamboree.
The jamboree officially began on Monday, but Wednesday's opening arena show made it feel like the party was just getting started. This morning's show at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree boasted an impressive guest list, great entertainment, and a spirit of patriotism.

Follow the 2010 National Scout Jamboree from wherever you are
Technology has changed quite a bit since 2005, the year of the last BSA jamboree. In December of that year, Facebook added its 5.5 millionth member. Today it has 500 million. Twitter didn't exist at the last jamboree. The 140-character craze wouldn't begin until the next year.
Friday's Name That Council challenge was a tough one. Many of you thought the patch belonged to Daniel Boone Council, which was a logical (but incorrect) notion. A few of you even created an entirely new council called the Davy Crockett Council.
