So while I prepared yesterday, I ended up writing my thoughts and it evolved into my scoutmaster's vision statement. It will take a while but I hope to get the Scouts to come up with their own vision of our success.
In my last post, I laid out that I'm going to become Scoutmaster tonight. I have had a couple of weeks to plan for this, but I really haven't done much to prepare for tonight. The current Scoutmaster hasn't said a word about this to me, that has me a bit on edge.
Two great podcasts to listen to today… MISS Show (subject:recruiting – how timely for me) and Clarke Green interviewing David Scott about his book "The Scouting Party." . The book is "a thoroughly researched, unflinching account of the founding and …
Today I worked on my Family Life and Gardening and Home Improvement merit badges… wait a minute, leaders can't earn merit badges – must have been a "Honey-Do" list.

First off thanks to all you who visited over the past 100 days. And thank you to "Scoutsigns" and all the other 100 Day Scouters (and Scouts) for sharing their journeys as well! As I logged on each day and recapped the previous day of Scouting I thought a) MAN this is more work then…
Friday: Day 98 started like most days, I was already behind and had several Scout things to do before I left for work. - packed for Scout Campout - looked over proposed Schedule, printed it and then left it behind :) - drove 4 Scouts to campout and watched as 34 Scouts (including 14 1st years) put up camp.
The clock continues to countdown this great project: - entered some TroopMaster data - emailed some Scouters about participants in the White Stag program (we have 5 going and 2 on Staff) - sat on an Eagle Board of Review and recommended him to National for Eagle!
As the Project 100 Days draws to an end I reflected on what has come before: - was asked (and agreed) to teach Scoutmaster Specific Training at Summer Camp for Main Camp Scouters this summer - made Facebook friends with several more Wood Badge participants - talked with CC about upcoming project for the Troop - worked on a…
100 Days of Scouting has come to a close. It began with the centennial anniversary of Scouting in the United States. The original idea was to motivate people--and especially me--to make sure we did something to improve the Scouting universe each day.
Days 88, 89, 90, 91, 92 TBA Day 93: after a long trip away I got back into the groove and starting prepping for the Troop Meeting, the monthly campout and Summer Camp Day 94: befriended on Facebook several Scouters from C-33-10 the course I staffed.
Today I: Spent a lot of time thinking about the 100 Days of Scouting project. I wanted it to make a difference in Scouting, for my Scouts, and for me personally. At this point, I hope that has happened. We'll see what seeds sprout.
Well, the end is here. 100 Days of Scouting (and effort) have been tied up. There are other Scouters following along, completing their own 100 Days trails. Catch the spirit of Scouting--whether is is for 100 days or a lifetime!

Today I: Hosted a Patrol Leaders Council with our incoming and outgoing Scout leaders. Completed a Scoutmaster conference for a new Scout. Followed up with a dad who needs to be dropped at the airport on the way home from a backpacking trip in June.
Today I: Relaxed after planting 48 tomato and 48 pepper plants, by reading Scouting blogs. It was the perfect way to recover. Flipped through a few random 100 Days of Scouting posts--I'm amazed at all the stuff I've already forgotten!
Today I: Fixed a new Scout's Boy's Life subscription. He paid for it but it wasn't marked on the registration form. Contacted all of the troop's dads about stepping up to help handle one campout year. Helped a Dad get the dates for Cub Scout summer camp so that he can surprise his son and…
Today I: Attended the council's Centennial Committee meeting. Attended the council's Scout-A-Rama Committee meeting. Turned in two new Scout applications--one for the pack and one for the troop. Meetings and Scouting go together like shoes and socks. Today was a meeting day with other great Scouters. Do you help Scouting with adult-facing meetings?
Paperwork. Advancement forms, merit badge cards, new Scout applications, committee meetings. We are not always as "Leave No Trace" as we would like. But it all happens to make Scouting move along. More days: Day 91 Day 92 Day 93 Day 94 Day 95 Blogging could be considered a form of paperwork, too!
Today I: Helped a Scout finish up Citizenship in the Nation--must have a Board of Review tonight...;-) Fielded a phone call about helping a den leader out. Could only offer encouragement, as the troop is swamped tonight. Conducted a scad of Scoutmaster conferences for Scout, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life ranks.
Today I: Had a long conversation about our Order of the Arrow program. Not thrilled, but sounds like new direction is coming. Scheduled a visit in a couple of weeks with the OA to visit our troop for OA elections.
Today I: Spoke to another Scout about the Reading merit badge. I detect a trend. Signed off on Camping merit badge for another Scout. He's working hard on Citizenship in the Nation now. He has a goal. Sent out reminder about Board of Review this week.
Sunday: A day of rest, Mother's Day, a day filled with Scouting! - Spent the morning with Mom and Wife and Sis...all incredible Moms! (dont want you to think I ignored them for Scouting) - Came home and Wife took Mom's Day nap...
Today I: Cleaned out the van from the campout and service project. Wow. Approved service hours for a Life Scout candidate. Chatted with a Scout about the requirements for the Reading merit badge--had to switch into the "merit badge counselor" hat first.
oh Saturday! You start cold and early (4am in downtown Indianapolis) for Overtime at Work when I should be at OA Ordeal (I was nominated as an adult this year). Scouting wise it was a light day: - spent 4 hours in the dining room: took all scout related paperwork NOT in the office (covered the…

Camping is on the brain this week: campouts, service on campouts, Camping merit badge. There truly is so much to do and so little time. More days: Day 86 Day 87 Day 88 Day 89 Day 90 When in doubt, camp it out.
Today I: Helped a patrol get their shopping done for the campout tonight. Reconfigured the van to seat 15 now instead of 12--good turnout! Clarified the water, fire and latrine situation where we are headed (all is as planned). Picked up the guys...and hit the road!

The end is near. Each day that passes, the 100 Days project draws closer to the end. I keep waiting for someone to offer me a small fortune to live on so that I can do Scouting full time. You have to have dreams.
Today I: Deposited more overdue summer camp fees--not a problem though, folks are just so busy now. Purchased a new 3-man tent and a new sleeping bag. Scouting related? Yep. Bag is for me, tent is one I hope the Scouts will adopt for our excursions.

Today I: Had my Scouting derailed by a problem at work. Updated pack and troop accounts with summer camp deposits. That was about it. Sometimes work is the highest priority--and it allows me to keep Scouting a high priority the rest of my life. Work ever get in your way?
Today I: Broadcasted the new Scouting Heritage merit badge information on Twitter, Facebook, via email to the troop, and other Scouters. Oh, asked the Scout store when we can expect the manuals. Reminded the crew about the new age and grade requirements for Venturing, effective Saturday.
Anyone every notice how much driving is involved in Scouting? I keep an old 15 passenger van simply because it is the easiest way to move a lot of Scouts and their stuff. And it is paid for. But "The Beast" is getting old, and that will present a new slate of problems in the…
Today I: Pulled together the list of awards needed for the pack meeting tonight. Went to the Scout store--still out of a lot of Academics and Sports belt loops and pins (primarily the new ones). Filled out the award cards--this always gives me a minute to remember each Scout and think about him for a…
