2014 Highlights (opens in a new tab)

A Scoutmaster's Blog ·

The Christmas holiday is over and the new year is just a day away. The year of 2014 is coming to an end and like a lot of people I am looking back at its highlights. There are a few that stand out in my Scouting world.

Blue & Gold Banquet Themes (opens in a new tab)

Jeff's Scouting Blog ·

Like most packs I imagine, ours is bad about keeping records and passing info along. I hope our website and handbooks do some of that, but some details get lost over the years (for instance, just about anything prior to 2009 when our first son joined is unknown to me).

I know I’m a hopeless romantic, and I’m aware that I shouldn’t let what I think and feel be the empirical measure for the thoughts and feelings of others. But, I love to share, and the memories of my Den Chief, and much of Scouting, are embodied in Norman Rockwell’s paintings.

Tom sent in this question: The New Leader Meeting for our Pack was basically, read the hand book and ask us any questions. As an Eagle Scout I was able to figure a bunch out on my own and our Den is running strong.

Connections in the 2015 Cub Scout Program Changes

Cub Scout Ideas ·

I have a great resource to share with you! With the Academic and Sports program (aka belt loops) being incorporated into the new adventures, many of us are concerned about program planning for multiple ranks. For example, we could offer a baseball or geography program where all boys–Tigers through Webelos–could earn a belt loop. The

So Thing 2's den is working on the Webelos Citizen activity badge. It;s one of those that can be a little dull to go over, so I was trying to think of ways to make it exciting. I have seen a kickstarter project for a couple merit badge programs that put a theme behind a…

Instant Recognition for Cub Scouts (opens in a new tab)

Jessica sent in this question: I am a new Cubmaster. I would like to start awarding the progress toward ranks beads for wolves and bears and also the tiger immediate recognition beads at Pack meetings instead of Den meetings. This is our preference and my husband and I have thought it out and we would…

Native American Indian Activities for Cub Scouts (opens in a new tab)

Cub Scout Ideas ·

Bears and Wolves have electives related to Native American culture. They should be used to help our Cub Scouts learn about the rich culture of American Indians. Below you'll find some activities and resources that can help complete these electives. Wolf Elective 10 – American Indian Lore 1. Read a book or tell a story

Through the eyes of a leader

Chief's Corner ·

We are fortunate at the Boy Scouts of America to have a huge cadre of trained volunteer leaders – close to one million – to help teach the principles of Scouting to America's young people – all while having a great time out-of-doors, building adventures, providing service in their communities, or learning new skills.

November Cub Scout Theme – Gives Goodwill (Citizenship)

Scouter Mom ·

BSA offers supplemental pack program ideas for each month. One theme for the November core value of Citizenship s a Gives Goodwill theme. Here is what the program helps say about this theme: Cub Scouts learn about the true spirit of Scouting this month as they show an act of goodwill by being good citizens…

Fun with Skits (opens in a new tab)

Jeff's Scouting Blog ·

It's not often I get to join in a skit. Usually we leave those things for the scouts. But for Cub Scout family camp, throwing in an adult skit can really top off the evening. We had our pack family camp this weekend, so the whole family went, Things 1, 2, & 3, along with my…

Cubmaster For A Day (opens in a new tab)

A Scoutmaster's Blog ·

As I mentioned in the last post to A Scoutmaster's Blog , I have been helping to reorganize the pack leadership. We now have what I feel is a strong committee of four committed parents. I also plan to stay on the pack committee to lend my assistance and support during this program year.

Jeff's Scouting Blog

Scoutmaster Clarke Green ·

I recently learned of a new Scouting blog authored by Jeff Freeman: So I've thought about a blog for a long time. Either as a representative of my pack, or now of the troop I'm in. Or even for my daughters Daisies.
