Cub Scouting History: Webelos (opens in a new tab)

KISMIF - Awesome Cub Scouting ·

You may think that "Webelos" has always stood for "WE'll BE LOyal Scouts." But actually, "Webelos" originally stood for the first letters of the ranks leading up to Boy Scouting: Wolf, Bear, Lion, Scout . The term is explained in this excerpt from the 1948 Lion Cub Scout Book: "The name WEBELOS (say Wee-belos) is like…

Cub Scout Uniform Revision

BSA Innovation Engine ·

2 Vote On Idea It would be greatly appreciated by the parents I come in contact with every day if the Cub Scout uniform was a simple T-shirt. Besides the "wear factor", meaning a T-shirt is easier to care for, the expense of the traditional uniform is getting to be beyond many folks.

Internet Advancement and Cub Scout Packs Advancement Reporting

BSA Innovation Engine ·

1 Vote On Idea I think it would be very helpful for the Internet Advancements to include any and all awards that Cub Scout packs provide such as Sports and Academics Belt Loops and Pins, etc., since it would a selling point for the Cub Scout Pack Advancement Chairs to use because many of them…

Girls in Cub Scouts? (opens in a new tab)

KISMIF - Awesome Cub Scouting ·

One of the more interesting suggestions posted on the BSA Innovation Engine is for permitting girls to join Cub Scouting . Of course, there is plenty to be said both in favor of and against this idea. The posted BSA response to the suggestion is "This idea has been assigned to the Innovation Team .

Tiger Cub requirement 4G

BSA Innovation Engine ·

-3 Vote On Idea Tiger requirement 4G reads, "Visit a television station, radio station, or newspaper office. Find out how people there communicate with others." Does this really make sense? How many Tiger cubs are able to go out and complete this requirement?

It sells itself

The Scoutmaster Minute ·

Last night I was asked to speak at a local Cub Scout Packs meeting/ recruiting event. It was fun to go hang out with the Cub Scouts a bit, but even more fun to see the young faces of Scouting's future.

Terminology: Webelos Scout (opens in a new tab)

KISMIF - Awesome Cub Scouting ·

According to the Language of Scouting , "Webelos" is not a noun. The term to use to refer to boys in a Webelos den is "Webelos Scouts" not "Webelos". Here is the LOS entry for "Webelos Scout": "( Pronounced WEE-buh-los .) A Cub Scout who has completed the third grade or is age 10 but has not yet…

Webelos Scout to Boy Scout (opens in a new tab)

ScoutSigns ·

The Trainer's Corner " blog has been running a series on getting Webelos Scouts ready and into a troop. Over the last two years, I've stumbled across a method that is working well. On paper, it might seem a little drastic.

Webelos Uniform change

BSA Innovation Engine ·

1 Vote On Idea Remove the plaid from the Webelos uniform. Follow the lead of the Centennial Boy Scout uniform and go for a more subtle and muted look. The uniform should be something that a 4th or 5th grade boy wants to wear to emulate older boys.

RETENTION/CUBBING

BSA Innovation Engine ·

6 Vote On Idea We need to stop trying to fill a bucket full of holes and plug those holes. Our Cubs are leaving between the Bear and Webelos II years. We need to create the environment for quality 12 month program with clear differences between what Tigers, Cubs and Webelos do (in the real…

Yo-Yo Belt Loop
