Today was our last day at Ridgecrest so only a few things remained for us to do. First off was breakfast, after which we loaded the van and trailer and took our contingent photo. Once our rooms had been checked it was time to hit the road for our hotel in Martinsburg.
I can't believe it is already the last day of the conference, Indian Summer has been so awesome so I made sure to make today just as great. Things started off with my usual routine and after my last stop in clouds I headed to my first class, chief and adviser.
I seem to have developed a morning routine while here at Ridgecrest. Every morning I get up, shower, go to breakfast and then head to the coffee shop for a chai. It was at the coffee shop that I saw something that has never been done before, Alex, a member of the communications staff had…
I can't believe it is already Wednesday. The day began like yesterday with breakfast and my obligatory trip to the coffee shop for a chai. After enjoying my chai and the WiFi I headed to the training building to begin my second day of training.
Today began the first day of training at Indian Summer 2011. My day began with a breakfast with the national chief,Jonathan Hillis. The van was loaded early today and the van was back on the road before 8:00AM. As the morning went on we moved through Virginia and as the rain started and the weather worsened we finally entered into North Carolina.
The day began as we loaded the van at 8:00 am and set off for our first destination in West Virginia. We had three pick-ups to make before everyone had joined us. The third and final pick-up was at the location of a scout shop, the last chance to stock up on scouting essentials.

Wow, Two years ago I launched this little site I like to call my blog and man has the time flown by. I haven't posted as often this past year as I would have liked to but rest assured, I have had a very busy scouting life.
Last week the members of Patrol Z, a new initiative from the Summit, were announced. What is Patrol Z? Patrol Z is a small group of Scouts who know their way around digital media. Telling stories online - with video, photos, and blogs - about their road to The Summit, PZ Scouts are spreading the word about…
So the last couple of weeks Scoutmaster Steve at A Scoutmaster's Blog and Bryan at Bryan on Scouting have been blogging each Monday about scouting memorabilia. So I thought I would join in on this series. Today's patches are from Conclave 2010 which our lodge hosted at Camp Russell. The theme for this conclave was Arrow…
The second weekend of January our Order of the Arrow Lodge held its first annual Moose Fest Winter Fellowship and Banquet. Moose Fest was held at Camp Russell in Woodgate, NY. Why name the event Moose Fest? Well the totem of Ga-Hon-Ga Lodge is the bull moose and, well that's the only reason.
Today is a very important day for scouting. Today is the birthday of the founder of the Scouting movement, Lord Robert Baden-Powell. Without BP scouting would have never begun in the UK and thus the unknown scout would not have been able to help William D.
The second weekend of October Ga-Hon-Ga Lodge 34 held its annual Fall Induction weekend at Camp Russell in Woodgate, NY. The Lodge's Ceremonies Team after the Pre-Ordeal Ceremony. The weekend started off Friday night as the staff members and lodge delegates began arriving early Friday evening.
This neon fleur-de-lis is on display in the dining hall at Camp Alpine in New Jersey. As we get closer to the drop of the ball in times square many people are taking some time to look back and take stock of 2010.
The first weekend of October our council held its first annual Jambo to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scout's of America. This event drew a huge crowd of more than 1,000 boy scouts, cub scouts and venturers. I spent most of the weekend helping out with different attractions and helped out by running…
Today I would like to wish a happy and healthy thanksgiving to all of my followers! To celebrate I have decided to design a new merit badge, the Turkey Carving merit badge. The requirements for this new badge would be: Discuss with your counselor injuries that could occur while carving a turkey, including but not…
Well it's about time I turned the lights back on here and got back to blogging isn't it? The last two months of October and November have been packed full as many of my weekends have been taken up with both scouting and non-scouting activities and during the week I worked to photograph as many…
Myself and the other members of my lodge that attended NLS. Two weekends ago I attended the National Leadership Seminar that was held at Camp Alpine in New Jersey. National Leadership Seminar, or NLS is a leadership training course that is put on by the National Order of The Arrow Lodge and is taught by…
So, this year our lodge hosted the Section NE-3A Conclave that was held on August 13-15, 2010 at Camp Russell. Over 180 arrow men attended this outstanding event. Friday afternoon I arrived at camp at around 2:00pm to start setting up camp and get ready for the storm of scouts that was set to hit…
Shine up your bugle and get ready for some reveille, because today it was announced that the bugling merit badge has been reinstated. Scouting magazine originally reported back in June that BSA was planning to combine the bugling merit badge with the music merit badge, which it already shares the book with.
Our Local Jamboree troops was featured in the local newspaper and on our local TV station this past Sunday. Our council will be sending two troops with a total of 75 scouts to the Jamboree. The media was covering the jamboree troop as the packed up there gear and loaded the truck's for Fort AP…
So, as many of you probably know if you follow me on twitter @scoutdude I just returned from a week of summer camp at Cedarlands Scout Reservation with my troop (@troop50). Here is a recap of our week. So Sunday morning we met bright and early at the local Methodist Church (our charter organization) and…
This weeks merit badge corner is a merit badge I earned last week at Summer Camp and is also one of the historic merit badges . It's the pathfinding merit badge! The pathfinding merit badge is very interesting and easy merit badge to earn and really only takes at most an hour to complete.
So it's been a while since I've had any gear to review but this week that changes. So way back in January I won the Coleman gift card contest that Scoutmaster Steve or @stevejb68 on twitter was having over on A Scoutmaster's Blog .
With memorial day having just passed a couple of weeks ago and this being one of the badges I am working on I thought that this would be a good badge for this week's corner. The citizenship in the nation merit badge is required to earn the eagle scout rank and gives scouts a chance…
So it was one year ago today that I launched my way into the wonderful world of blogging, and as Scoutmaster Steve (@stevejb68) said, " Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging. Please fasten your safety belt and prepare for a fun ride."
Today many of us will be having family picnics and barbecues and watching parades and having fun on our three-day weekend. But while we are having all of that fun, take a moment to remember those who have lost their lives while fighting in combat for our nation and for those who have passed away…
This past weekend the OA lodge held their annual spring fellowship and induction weekend. This fellowship was held at our council's cub camp, Camp Kingsley. So I arrived Friday night with our lodge chief and his brother and we Began unloading the smudge pots and regalia for the ceremonies.
So after I posted my recap of our March Campout ( read it here ) I had a number of people ask me for the recipe to make Cleary's Cast-iron Cheescake. This recipe was a huge hit with my troop so I hope you will share it with yours.
So this post marks a very special milestone for my blog. This is my 100th post. Pretty cool that I have had over 100 posts and I hope to have many many more in the future. So since I've hit 100 posts lets go back and take a look at my first post: Welcome As…
The Troop Outside the Cabin So last month our troop held our March Campout. This trip is traditionally the first campout for our new scouts and we had a good number of them attend this trip. This month we decided to stick with our of staying in a cabin at Camp Kingsley.
OK so this week's Merit Badge isn't available to be earned by scouts yet but the official requirements have been released by BSA. It's the Geocaching Merit Badge. What is Geocaching you ask? Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which a GPS is used to locate caches which are hidden in areas near the coordinates…
OK, so back in January the blog over at Scouting Magazine put out the information on the Historic Merit Badge Program. Unfortunately this information was put out before the program was ready to roll and caught most of the scouting community off-guard (including me) when they posted that the program was being postponed.
This week's video was suggested by Scoutmaster Steve from A Scoutmaster's Blog . This weeks video is the song, Cool and Creamy sang by the boys from Troop 27. Enjoy!
This week's video comes from the great guys over at Melrose Scouting Productions Podcast. It is the furniture store skit that was performed at one of there annual laughs for lunch shows. Enjoy!
Christ the lord is risen today! Today is a joyous occasion for all of the Christian faith and I hope that this easter finds you and your family happy, safe, and healthy. Don't forget that a scout is reverent and have a very happy and blessed easter from my family to yours!
If you have visited the site today you may have noticed a change in the theme. There is a reason for this. Recently, Google Inc. contacted me about acquiring my blog and integrating it as a scouting based blog aggregator.
Sorry this took so long (and I really mean so long, our Klondike was a little over a month ago) but here it goes. Last month our troop participated in our District's annual Klondike Derby. The Klondike was held at one of our council's boy scout resident camps, Camp Russell which is located in Woodgate…
This week's merit badge is one that fosters lifelong skills that scouts can use in their every day lives. While working on this merit badge scouts will get the chance to learn one of the most valuable skills they can, how to cook.
+ Today marks four years from date the first tweet was sent on twitter. If you would like to read more about the birthday of twitter you can read about it on mashable here http://mashable.com/2010/03/21/happy-birthday-twitter-2/ . OK so many of us use twitter for scouting.
