So, I didn't keep up with a post-a-day-for-100-days. I went with my boys yesterday to go sledding on our family's property, and by the time I got home, cleaned up, put all bodies to bed, I was beat, and never hit the PC except to chat with Jerry for a bit.
This is the site that I have been using lately...especially now that I have paid my fees. I am getting really excited... Wood Badge - Advance Training for Adult Leaders
So tonight was a bit more special for me when it comes to a Board of Review. My son went for and passed his Tenderfoot Board of Review. Our troop also got Tyler his Tenderfoot rank tonight. The road for the last year has been long, but it's starting to pay dividends.
Just like the title says, nuttin'...nuttin' that I really care to write about. Right about now, I am in a state of confusion, as we lost a really good DE today, and to be honest, I don't think that our district is going to recover for some time.
Tonight, I attended a Tiger meeting...you see, I have changed my role with the pack, and I am the 2nd Assistant Cubmaster, and I am overseeing the Tigers and Wolves. The Wolf den is going pretty strong, so the occasion phone call will suffice, but the Tiger den WAS in dire straits.
No, it's not the Stuart Scott catch phrase, it's the name of a type of soup, made locally in Wisconsin. Basically, it's a chicken soup, usually without the noodles, made from...well, follow this WIKI to find out more. I got word tonight that the Moose Lodge is going to help us out with a Booyah…
This was passed along by my friend, Cliff Jacobson. Cliff is an avid canoeist and member of the NESA. I won't be able to attend, but I am sure that if you are a canoeist, and would like to spend a weekend with a great outdoorsman, this is your chance.
OK, so this 100 Days of Scouting isn't as easy as it seems. I really wanted to make the commitment to blog everyday. When I started it, I had 2 goals in mind 1.) Blog everday...no matter what, even something small.
Got a couple more scouts who have completed some requirements in order to have their Tenderfoot BoRs. It's been a long night, so I will see you all tomorrow...
Is there such a thing? Not in my world...even as a went to the museum and Lambeau Field with my son, scouts still played a factor into it. A young boy got a bloody nose, and the chaperon of the boy's group told him to tip his head backwards.
OK, so you got the jist on breakfast...our midday meal went over real well, but it didn't start that way. Most didn't trust me when I said that everything that we had would feed everyone, but it did. Don't doubt Scoutmaster Shawn...
The most important meal of the day, right? That's what they say, whoever they are...not that I really care, but I know that in the morning, I am one hungry Scoutmaster, and this past weekend, I had 37 others that were hungry, too.
This past weekend, I attended our pack's annual winter camp. I have been asked to cook for the last 3 years, and I have obliged. We have attendance around 20 scouts and 15 adults. Our cost for the campout is $20 for the weekend.
Over the weekend, our pack held it's annual winter camp. The weekend had high hopes, in that most of the attendees hadn't ever been on an outing like this...going camping, in my opinion, defines a scout's career. If they have a good time, they are probably hooked and they are a scout for life...a bad…
Last night, my brand new Lightning Patrol leader came to the meeting a bit late. When he arrived, he wouldn't take his coat off. I told him, "Take off your coat, stay awhile"...he insisted that he was hot. I got curious and then I insisted that he remove his coat (my first thoughts were about…
Tonight, we had our first Board of Review for our troop. Robert earned his Tenderfoot, passing his first Board of Review. He was a but nervous, and the committee took their time waiting to give him an answer, but in the end, he completed it.
Not a lot to talk about tonight, other than recording Scout Nation!... Cold is kicking my rear end, but I have to do it for all of the scouters out there...I love all of you!... Must be the meds...ni-night..
I am going to start with an early post, as opposed to what I normally go through, by posting at night after a full day or not so full day. In recent posts, I have ranted or been a bit incoherent, or just rambled about, well, nothing....
Today is one of those days...zero ambition on the scouting front, more or less, zero ambition all around. This cold/sinus infection/earache has gotten the best of me, but I was still able to get over to the PC to do my 100 days...
Today we had our PAL meeting...that stands for Parent and Leader Meeting...another catchy name for our committee meeting...pretty poor turnout, but I think that everyone is "worn"...we are going through the winter doldrums here, and scouting has been getting hit pretty hard...one thing after another.
Plan your work and work your plan...that's all there really is to being a scout leader. It's not rocket science, it's not neurosurgery...it's scouts. Poor communication, lack of planning and not following through results in lost scouts...something that I am not a big fan of.
I usually don't talk about gear or what I wear, but recently, I picked up this jacket . I will have to say that it's the best investment that I have made in the last couple of years...ranks right up there with the Danner boots that lasted me almost 4 years.
Tonight is our PLC...it's really only the second one that we have had...the others haven't really materialized...mostly due to the scouts not being trained...my fault...I take full accountability for that. That has been rectified, by holding TLT last month, and now, with a new patrol, our PLC is shaping up rather nicely.
I have been attending the BG dinner for our pack for the last 7 years, and each year, the day after the event, the emails pour in or the phone doesn't stop ringing, with complaints about how one person was slighted, or one person wasn't given proper thanks or worse yet..."my kid didn't get his…
Tonight is our Blue and Gold dinner...I still have an active role in the pack, as the 2nd Assistant Cubmaster. I took on the role after seeing some issues with a couple of the younger dens, and asked the Cubmaster if he needed a hand.
So, there was an event on Sunday night, where 2 teams, with storied histories, who met on the field to discuss who would be taking home a silver award for the evening. At the end, the team with the most heart ended up taking home that award.
Dawn of my second year as Scoutmaster for Troop 1363 has passed and I am in the beginning of a new day as a Scoutmaster. Last week, our troop grew...yes, I know that I have been tweeting about the new scouts attending meetings, but now I consider them a true part.
I like patches, and I got inspired for a new idea. I have seen pictures of different Council Shoulder Patches on Twitter and Facebook. It's one thing that all scouters share...they are all the same shape, but there are many different CSPs...I know that I have 3 different CSPs...
I was checking my normal Twitter feeds, and saw a link to Clarke's Blog which led me to a link on Scouting Magazine's site The question is about respect from fellow troop members. Here is the question: Our troop has just seven Scouts who are 14 or older, including me, and then 15 to 20…
Last part of my Skype call-in, podiversary show…thanks to all my friends who came on and talked some really great scouting This show was brought to you by The Boy Scout Store Join the forum discussion on this post Share with Others:
Getting my scouts to advance has been a bit of a challenge...it's not that they are lazy, but they don't know what to do. Being that they are only in the 6th grade, with no "experienced" scouts to help them.
Another segment from my call-in show from December 7th…thanks to all those that came on that night…it was a blast This show is sponsored by Badge Magic Join the forum discussion on this post Share with Others:

Wow…I am so bad about getting content out to the blog, I want to even smack myself. But don't worry…I won't smack myself, out of the simple fact that I really don't like pain, nor do I want to hit myself.

I saw a post today, kind of a rabbit trail from yesterday's uniforming discussion, where the topic was knives...fixed or folding. I prefer fixed...my friend, Cliff Jacobson , prefers fixed...so much that he designed his own He is the person that got me really thinking about knives, but not through a knife book or class, but…
OK, so last night, I tweeted that I was thinking about hanging up the blog, that I had nothing to say, that the other Scoutmasters took all the good stuff already. And then, I read a bunch of tweets, and a follow-up blog about uniforming...
OK, so my summer vacation went longer than it should have…can't get into the whole speaking-on-the-internet right now, so I have a short show from my friend, Commissioner Keith, enjoy! Join the forum discussion on this post Share with Others:
Last night, I talked to a friend of mine, and he asked how things were going in the troop. I told him that I had to do some "soul-searching"…it's not that I am having all kinds of troubles, I just need a minor course adjustment.
Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent. The 12 points of the Scout Law. Words to live by. We all know them and as scouters, want our scouts to not only be able to recite them, but to live their everyday lives by them.
Well...it's about 3 1/2 hours to departure, and I can't wait. Yea, there is a not-so-favorable forecast tonight, and I thought about calling off the trip, but so many times, I have seen posts on PTC Media and Twitter about the chance of storms and rain, with leaders questioning to stay or go, and I…
As I was listening to The Scoutmaster Minute with Scoutmaster Jerry , I heard him say that he was getting a bit behind with the show, due to him having great scouting weeks... How does this impact us? For me, I look to Jerry's show for guidance, for enlightenment and for ideas to poach for my…
