In 2010 the Boy Scouts of America turned 100, and volunteers celebrated all year. Centennial uniforms, the 100 Days of Scouting challenge and the 2010 Jamboree made it a banner year.
Day 7 of the #100daysofscouting project ended at our Troop meeting last night. Final preparations for this weekends camp out and Scoutmaster minute that left many of the Scouts wondering if they were ever going to be Eagle Scouts. Ok let me explain...
I am going to start with an early post, as opposed to what I normally go through, by posting at night after a full day or not so full day. In recent posts, I have ranted or been a bit incoherent, or just rambled about, well, nothing....
Archery Merit Badge [OK, how appropriate for Archery to be the image for St. Valentine's Day? Think Cupid!] Today was busy spending time with my wife of forever--29 years of marriage this summer. In a way, it was a great way to thank her for all of the time spent on Scouting.
Today is one of those days...zero ambition on the scouting front, more or less, zero ambition all around. This cold/sinus infection/earache has gotten the best of me, but I was still able to get over to the PC to do my 100 days...
Today I: - finished a chat with Scoutmaster Jerry (at about 12:30 this morning) - printed out some replacement merit badge cards for a Life Scout - emailed some reports to a Scout who moved to Seattle - talked with another Scouter about TLT and shared some resources - responded to the CC who has been away for the weekend…

Well really nothing much today... spent a great day hanging with the family. Did a little work on the blog, but really not a Scouting day. I posted earlier today about the FISH program. I really encourage you to follow those links and see what they have to offer.
Only one thing for Scouting today and that was to inventory the Cub awards (belt loops, pins and Webelos activity badges) that made their way to my basement last Blue & Gold and never came back again. I shared the …
Today was Scout Sunday (we've had some wicked weather here these past few weeks) so I uniformed up (thanks HIMYM) and headed to the Church we met at. There I watched several of my Scouts and younger Scouts (and Girl Scouts) participated in the mass at several levels.
Today we had our PAL meeting...that stands for Parent and Leader Meeting...another catchy name for our committee meeting...pretty poor turnout, but I think that everyone is "worn"...we are going through the winter doldrums here, and scouting has been getting hit pretty hard...one thing after another.
Archaeology Merit Badge A quiet day today, preparing for a quick St. Valentine's Day trip tomorrow. The calendar was actually clear today of Scouting commitments--in fact the whole weekend was. Pretty unusual event around here. None of us really knew what to do instead!
Days 4, 5, and 6 were eventful and plenty of good Scouting Moments... Unfortunately I have not taken the time, till now to sit down and jot down the thoughts... well I am going to claim that time and space was the reason.
Today I: - worked with the Treasurer on some budget ideas - updated the online sign up for the March Campout - emailed various Scouts and Scouters about all sorts of things, including Webelos, supplies, sick Scout, Merit Badge Cards, Cross Over dates, New Scout Patrols - exchanged information with a local Scoutmaster about a topic from Roundtable....
Animal Science Merit Badge Nice day out today, prematurely warm. Spent a lot of time out looking at my garden, cleaning up the area in between the square-foot boxes, and adding more leaves to add to the rot. So what does that have to do with Scouting?
Sorry this is late all... I did not plan to do any Scouting on Day 4. My son and I traveled to his new college to learn about their School of Music, Music Education program. It was an incredible day filled with lots of information, several concerts and some placement tests and auditions that my…

Thursdays are easily my favorite night of the week. It means the weekend is almost here but there's still time to wrap things up. It's also the night of our weekly Troop meeting. Out of 100 Days of Scouting I …

American Heritage Merit Badge I was looking for a little adventure today, and found this guy: @SamuelHGardner Think you have goals? 12500 mile hike in one year. Never been done. Think you have struggles? First 4600 miles is the North Country Trail .
Well the 100 Days of Scouting Project is off to a great start yet again. So far I've seen 6-8 Scouters joining the project. And I am sure several more will follow. I had a mountain top experience last night at our Troop's Court of Honor.
There are a group of Scouters out there that have real nice Blogs (and Podcasts).. they have individually yet collectively decided to keep a running log of their activity that celebrate the next 100 days of Scouting... after all, just because it's not the centennial anymore does not mean we should not kick off the…
100 Days of Scouting has started off very well… It's great to see the momentum it's started with and already it's led me to a number of new Scouters to engage with. worked with the patrol leader on planned instruction …
American Cultures Merit Badge Wednesday is still the most hectic Scouting day of my week. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, email, calendar corrections, meeting plans, trips to the store, and merit badge counseling. Oh...and blogging, confirming appointments for other Scouting events, Blue and Gold updates...you get the idea.

The idea was to capture the big and little things we do every single day for Scouting--and maybe more importantly to make sure…
Today begins the 2nd Annual 100 Days of Scouting . Happy Birthday to us! I've already heard from Scouters who have kicked off their own blogs to participate in this year's event. Read them, offer comments, share the experience...and maybe even join us!
Happy Birthday to the Boy Scouts of America! Today, the organization is 101 years old. That is quite an accomplishment for any organization, but it is really something for a youth group to accomplish. It is awe inspiring when you sit and think for a moment about all the boys that have been a part…

Last year I put together a post of interesting HalfEagle Stats from 2009 and I want to continue the tradition! I think this was HalfEagle's sixth year online and clearly we've come a long way in that time. Let's see if anything has changed since last year.
Time flies when you are having fun and I cannot believe that the centennial year is just about to end in in less than 2 months time. This past year was an interesting year for me, actually beginning in September 2009, with the Great Lakes Jamboree at the EAA grounds in Oshkosh.
The Boy Scouts of America isn't the only Scouting organization celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year. The Kenya Scouts Association, one of 160 recognized national Scout organizations in the world, has also reached triple digits in 2010.
