I have a great resource to share with you! With the Academic and Sports program (aka belt loops) being incorporated into the new adventures, many of us are concerned about program planning for multiple ranks. For example, we could offer a baseball or geography program where all boys–Tigers through Webelos–could earn a belt loop. The

So Thing 2's den is working on the Webelos Citizen activity badge. It;s one of those that can be a little dull to go over, so I was trying to think of ways to make it exciting. I have seen a kickstarter project for a couple merit badge programs that put a theme behind a…
So Thing 2 is in his first year as a Webelos. In the past years, I let the parents sign-off the scouts books, and I'd just log things in the database we use. But now we are moving toward Boys Scouts, and are in that Webelos transition phase.
The next few years promise to be exciting for Scouting as our traditional programs will be updated based on several years of volunteer-led research and development. Jessica sent in this question: I am a new Cubmaster. I would like to start awarding the progress toward ranks beads for wolves and bears and also the tiger immediate recognition beads at Pack meetings instead of Den meetings. This is our preference and my husband and I have thought it out and we would…

I was a little nervous before that meeting on Monday, September 29th. It was to be my first time as acting as a cubmaster. Being a scoutmaster was no problem. I did that for 30 years. But this was a whole different age group, and a new set of parents and family members.
We are fortunate at the Boy Scouts of America to have a huge cadre of trained volunteer leaders – close to one million – to help teach the principles of Scouting to America's young people – all while having a great time out-of-doors, building adventures, providing service in their communities, or learning new skills.

It's not often I get to join in a skit. Usually we leave those things for the scouts. But for Cub Scout family camp, throwing in an adult skit can really top off the evening. We had our pack family camp this weekend, so the whole family went, Things 1, 2, & 3, along with my…

As I mentioned in the last post to A Scoutmaster's Blog , I have been helping to reorganize the pack leadership. We now have what I feel is a strong committee of four committed parents. I also plan to stay on the pack committee to lend my assistance and support during this program year.
I recently learned of a new Scouting blog authored by Jeff Freeman: So I've thought about a blog for a long time. Either as a representative of my pack, or now of the troop I'm in. Or even for my daughters Daisies.

Cayti sent in this question: Hey, I am a Webelos I leader this year (going through again with younger son), but this time, I have a kiddo in our group who is solely an auditory learner. Are there any videos or games geared towards helping these kids memorize/learn the Webelos requirements?
I happened to just be surfing the web last night, one of those days where you google your own name to see what comes up. I stumbled on this article from a local newspaper. Nothing amazing or earth-shattering but it was a fun little event. I've helped a couple years since as well. http://zoomfolsom.com/2012/04/21/cub-scout-pinewood-derby-championships/
Maybe when they asked for volunteers to step forward, everybody else took a step backward. Perhaps you were approached by the pack committee chair who lured you in, telling you "it's only an hour a week." Or you always wanted to be the big guy up front and you didn't see anyone else brave enough
In today's Cub Scouting, the ranks go Tiger, Wolf, Bear, & Webelos. Webelos is an 18-month (some say two year) program. Though when I was a scout my understand is that is was just one year (though my memory certainly isn't that good).
