I'm always on the hunt for interesting Scouting history articles. Here's a good one to about the history of the Order of the Arrow logo. I've seen many of the various handbook covers over the years, and have seen how the images have changed, but this article ties it all together.
Before our youngest son left for college, he wanted to get a tattoo. I am not a big fan of "ink" even though I now have two tattoos. But that was something he wanted and to top it off, he wanted me to get one with him.
Wow! 10,000 Arrowmen already signed up for next August. It'll be an event to remember. Let's see if Thing 1 and I can get into our council's contingent... https://www.facebook.com/oabsa
Thing 1 and I had the pleasure of joining 500 other Arrowmen at the Section W3N Conclave this weekend. Lodges Amangi Nacha (my lodge), Orca, Talako, Tannu, and Ut-in Selica make up Section W3N. One of the really fun parts was the size of this conclave, one of the biggest for our section yet.

As my son goes through his journey in Scouting, I see the fun he is having and the good friends he is making. The excitement he has is contagious, and brings me joy to share some of those experiences with him.
Next year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Order of the Arrow (OA), scouting's honor society. I expect the National OA Conference (NOAC) will be huge. Thing 1 was just inducted into the OA this year, he's already talking about wanting to go (he needs to start saving his money...).
As if you needed another reason to attend NOAC next summer. You know the National Order of the Arrow Conference is the OA's signature event. You know 2015 is the Order of the Arrow's 100th Anniversary. Right there you've got two incredible reasons to attend on Aug.
Maybe it's that I am getting a little older. Could be that my mind tends to view things a little different with the kids growing and moving on with their lives. It may be that I have a clearer understanding of what is really important in my life.

This weekend was spent rekindling the fire of the Order of the Arrow in me. I attended our Lodges annual gathering called Rendezvous. Our Lodge hosts three major events each year. The Native American Arts and Ceremonies Seminar, The Rendezvous of the Order, and The Leadership Development Conference.

Monday night our Troop held its annual Order of the Arrow election and its six month youth leadership election. Our Troop elections are like most Troops in that we hold the elections for youth leadership. We may differ in this aspect, we only elect the "assistants".
I do not talk much about the Order of the Arrow on this blog, and maybe I should. I have not received a lot of requests for OA topics, but over the past few months I have been giving the Order of the Arrow a bit more thought.
Most of us involved in the Scouting program either know or have heard of the Philmont Grace, the official meal prayer for Philmont Scout Ranch. But did you know the Order of the Arrow has one now? This was recently posted on the Naguonabe Lodge Facebook page: The National Order of the Arrow Committee has…
Ask the Expert: When should Scouts and Scouters wear their OA sash?
