1 Vote On Idea As most council do, we make every effort to do our FOS presentations at a Blue and Gold Dinner with each Cub Scout Pack. We have also developed and encouraged a Red and Green Dinner for Boy Scout Troops and a Green and Yellow Dinner for Venturing Crews.
Under the traditional Cub Scout program , non-leader parents (other than Tiger partners) were not encouraged to attend den meetings although they were permitted to do so if they asked to. Today, however, there may be a trend toward encouraging helpful parental presence at Cub Scout meetings and events.
Welcome to Friday Funny! Every Friday, Scouting News will share a Scouting related joke with our readers. Hopefully you find it just as funny as we did! Today's Friday Funny comes from the Boy's Life Joke Archives , and was originally submitted by Ed L.
Pinewood Derby is a highlight of the year for most Cub Scout packs. Watching and cheering for the brightly colored cars speeding down the track can be very exciting. But I think it is helpful to remember that Pinewood Derby is not really about making and racing fast cars .

0 Vote On Idea There is a National Summertime award to encourage units to continue meeting and doing activities during the summer, why not have a webelos to scout transition award nationally? Many volunteers tend to put focus and priority on opporunities when there is an incentive attached.
Before any BSA group may have a swimming activity, there must be a Safe Swim Defense trained leader in charge. As with all the Webelos activity badges, the best resources for Aquanaut are the Webelos Handbook and the Webelos Leader Guide .
This past month's edition of "Scouting Magazine," had a wonderful article on Adult Leadership Knots and Knots scouts can earn for accomplishing various requirements above and beyond the call of duty (meaning that these awards are not required for rank advancement and do not determine the final outcome of one aspiring to reach Eagle Scout)…

Hello fellow Scouters, Nothing sucks the life out of a pack meeting like a dry, boring ceremony. I've seen ceremonies that were so boring that they put a halt to a pack meeting - they can be like putting a car in Park when you are still driving.
0 Vote On Idea Considering that the only place that Cubs can earn the shooting sports belt loops/pins is at organized district/council events (which for many is only at Day Camp), and considering that because many day camps are held in public parks which may not allow archery or more notably BB shooting, could a…

Many packs and dens find the monthly themes useful. They help to integrate the program with fun ideas and twists to keep the boys engaged. [I wish the Program Helps covered Webelos--they always seem to get left out of the theme.] One of the first things I do in June is email out the list…

Scouting and competitions have gone hand in hand since the beginning of the scout movement. Boys vs. boys has it's merits as a way to check one's understanding of the values beging taught within the program. Knowing first aid, for instance, is not enough but being able to demonstrate that knowledge of first aid under…
Welcome to my first post. We are well into the month of January and it is time transition scouts to find their prospective boy scout troop that they expect to join when they make that all important step at crossover.
Hello fellow Scouters, In this installment of Webelos to Scout Transition, I want to talk about progressive Webelos camping. One thing that I've done with my two Webelos dens is introduce the boys to camping with Boy Scouts gradually. Thankfully, my council and district have given opportunities for this.

On to the Cubbies, not the ones from Chicago, but the Cub Scouts...the Little Boys in Blue. No, they aren't mini-cops or mini-soldiers, but I heard that phrase somewhere and I kind of like it. Parents out there look for resources and places on the net to get all the information for the Cub program.
It's true...in the bible, it says "In the big-inning..." The beginning...Cub Scouts. About 95% of the boys that are Eagle Scouts, started out as Cub Scouts. It's rare for the most part that a boy joins Boy Scouts without having experienced Cub Scouts...not an opinion, more of a fact, but not what I am here…
No, not our president elect, and this is a scouter forum. I have my political views, but chose not to expose them here. What I am talking about are den chiefs... A position that is overlooked as another leadership requirement for Boy Scouts or for a den leader to have a babysitter.

Hello fellow Scouters, Should you bother with leader recognition knots? Do they add any value to your Scouting program? Isn't it really about the boys, not us leaders? I hear these questions a lot when I discuss leader recognition. I say it does matter!

I wish Delta would adopt the Cub Scout motto. In the older Boy Scout lingo, DELTA means Developing Ethical Leaders Through Action. But, today I'm talking about Delta Airlines. I figured I should vent about this tonight at the end of a long day of catching up and be done with my whining for the…
