Knot of the Week: Tiger Cub Den Leader Award

Bryan on Scouting / On Scouting ·

The diamond-shaped Tiger Cub award is usually the first patch a young Cub Scout receives. These first-graders search, discover, and share -hey, that's the Tiger Cub motto-as they complete 15 fun-filled requirements for the orange and yellow award. Similarly, the Tiger Cub Den Leader Award is often the first square knot a new Scouter earns.

Commissioner Keith Comments ·

I have been an adult leader for approximately 12yrs. now and I am a firm believer the the Boy Scouts of America has cornered the market on available training for scouts and scouters. Access to this training is easy and the information provided is more than helpful to anyone that chooses to seek further knowledge…

Hello fellow Scouters, At the end of our Bear year, we chose a Boy Scout patrol emblem for our Webelos den name. In our pack, the Webelos change from a den number to a den patrol name at the beginning of the Webelos program (I know some units do this at the beginning of their…

If you have not noticed yet, a comic strip called The Buckets is currently running a few days worth of comics about Pinewood Derby cars. The Cub Scout son does not seem to understand that he has to make a car from this block of wood he received.

This is a recap of February 2009 on Scouting News… Top Stories This Month This list is based on traffic as reported by Google Analytics. I suppose it is not a true image of the "top stories" since it gives preference to stories that have been online longer, however it is a nice snapshot.

The Trainer's Corner Blog ·

Hello fellow Scouters, Just for fun… I started a forum post in the Scouting Community , that I wanted to share with you. Several posters added their thoughts, and all were funny. So, without further adieu (because apparently the paragraph above must be adieu), — "You know you're a Cub Scout leader when…" - You spend more time…

A Busy Night (opens in a new tab)

From the Committee Chair ·

We had our weekly Troop meeting tonight, and preparations for the Klondike Derby were well underway. The SPL had the Scouts out in the wind and cold making sure that the Troop equipment was in the trailer and in good condition.

Cub Scout Survival 101 (opens in a new tab)

Scouting Maniac ·

Akela was teaching his Cub Scouts about survival in the desert. "What are the three most important things you should bring with you in case you get lost in the desert?" he asked. Several hands went up, and many important things were suggested such as food, matches, etc.

Tiger Cub badge doesn't match

BSA Innovation Engine ·

4 Vote On Idea Can we look at the Tiger Cub rank badge? The older Bobcat, Wolf, and Bear badges have a 'normal' looking animal on them. But the Tiger badge looks like a cartoon drawing of the Lion King's Simba.

Cub / Webelos body movement program

BSA Innovation Engine ·

1 Vote On Idea In addition to the castels/ forts etc in the Cub and Webelos program, why not create a "body movement" (think kinestetics or proprioception) activity area. This would be a location in camp where the child could go to learn the proper body movements to: Throw or catch a ball Do a…

Cub Scout Shooting Sports (opens in a new tab)

KISMIF - Awesome Cub Scouting ·

One of the biggest attractions of Cub Scouting for boys is the chance to shoot bb guns and bows and arrows. I have met few Cub Scout-age boys who don't get excited about shooting sports. But as Cub Scout leaders, we need to remember BSA restrictions on shooting sports in the Cub Scout program : "Archery…

Change the Law of the Pack to the 12 points of the Scout Law

BSA Innovation Engine ·

2 Vote On Idea It is not a small or insignificant change, if, as I believe, it would: 1. Increase Cub Scout retention, as parents see greater value in the program's values. 2. Increase Cub Scout parent interest in having their son stay in Scouting and become a Boy Scout.

ScoutSigns ·

Ever stop to think about what your pack's "Pinewood Derby" says about your unit? I know PWD's run the gamut from non-competitive play to competition (and parent) intensive ordeals to be endured. All of them are loud, too! We didn't have a pinewood derby for the first 3 years of our pack.
