Pack meetings, den adventures, pinewood derbies and blue and gold banquets. Den leaders and Cubmasters swapped ideas for keeping younger Scouts busy, happy and learning.
A few weeks ago, the Allohak District held their annual pinewood derby sponsored by Pack 311 and Darby Community Church. ClassB was fortunate enough to be invited to judge the design competition. It was a beautiful day and things got off to a great start as the sponsoring pack served up a hot breakfast of…
OK, so for today's post, not just a catch up of the last 2 days. On an upcoming episode of True North, I am going to talk about what I like to call, the "Cubmaster Team"… As you know, I am a Scoutmaster for Troop 1363.
Tonight is Cub Scout Pack 68′s Blue and Gold Banquet. It will be the first one I have attended in five years. Not because I did not want to attend any, but because there have not been any Webelos Scouts to crossover.
Every once in awhile it becomes a busy week of Scout stuff in this scoutmaster's schedule. This happens to be one of those weeks. Take a look… Monday, the 14th – The troop meeting. Most of the members of the Mel-TV board of directors stopped by for a photo with the Boy Scouts.
It's Webelos Season! Now What? The troop visits have come and gone, you've had a camp out or two where Webelos participated, they've made their decisions and they are coming to join your Troop!Maybe you have a tidal wave of twenty or thirty (gulp!)
Today is 3-14. Happy Pi Day! In honor of this special occasion, let's take a look at the Mathematics belt loop from the Cub Scout Academics and Sports program.
Puppet Play – Holmes and Watson Go To Webelos Camp
Cub Scout Pack 68 of Melrose will be holding its Blue and Gold Banquet later this month. To provide a little entertainment during the evening I have volunteered to produce a slideshow of the pictures I have taken when I attended their den meetings and the Pinewood Derby.
Tonight, I got together with the Cubmaster of the pack, and another CM from a pack in a city about 30 miles to the south of Green Bay. I helped this CM awhile back in using Google Apps to make a pack website, and he repaid the debt with bringing his pack's PWD track and…
The week on the SMMPodcast we talk about Den Chiefs and what an amazing asset they can be for your Troop. I am not going to blog a bunch about it.. listen to the show ! I will tease it just a bit to say that when your Troop uses Den Chiefs you have better developed…
In this show we talk about Den Chiefs and the asset they are to your Troop! This show is sponsored by ClassB.com Let us Feedback by shooting us an email , dropping a note on the Blog or using our new SMMVoicemail..
The Cub Scout core value for the month of March is compassion. Here is a brief Cubmaster minute to help Cub Scout understand the meaning of compassion.
Today the Scouting Blogosphere has been pretty quiet, Been working on the next podcast. We are going to be talking about Den Chiefs, training Den Chiefs, and how Den Chiefs benefit your unit. Well we are talking about Den Chiefs anyway...
BSA Tiger Den Meeting 2 – Bobcat and Making My Family Special
This is an overview of the second Tiger den meeting plan from the BSA program helps. I've included some additional information I think would be helpful.
Today I: Emailed the parents of the top two Pinewood Derby racers from each rank to get their confirmation their boys would be able to attend the District race later in March. Heard back from three of them. Updated the blog’s theme and added another 100 Days of Scouting blog ( A Day in the Life……
Citizenship in the Nation Wednesday again, the busiest day of the week. Our rescheduled Blue and Gold is tonight. We do it very casually, quick awards, Friends of Scouting presentation, and then a potluck dinner. Everyone has a good time, and I get to touch base with all the families and scout out all of…
THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN," were my second year Webelos Scouts from pack 4094 and these boys were the first scouts from that pack to compete every available award within the Webelos section of the Cub Scout program. These boys were more than just Scouts.
It was just about a year ago that I first started my first 100 days of Scouting. I began chronicling my Scouting adventures the morning after my son had crossed over to Boy Scouts. Tonight we were back again with our former Pack, this time to cross five new Scouts into our Troop. Before the
Today's Scouting activity was final preparations for my role in tomorrows Blue & Gold. Neckerchiefs, slides and welcome cards ready. Tomorrow we welcome five new Scouts into our Troop.
So Friday was a pretty busy day. In addition to working a full day, we had family come into town for the Blue & Gold on Saturday. I also had plenty of prep work left to do for the Blue & Gold, but family takes priority so after work we were off to bd’s Mongolian Grill .
Basketry Merit Badge Today has kind of flown by, and I've kept my eye out for Scouting opportunities (tried really hard not to say, "Scouting for opportunities"...) We've had ice and snow to get in the way, and if they cancel school tomorrow, our Blue and Gold will be postponed a week, too.
(This is a follow-up to my previous post on Arrow of Light / Cub Scout Career Arrows, found here .) So they’re done. Finally! And they look pretty sweet! Probably because after doing the design, I had NOTHING to do with them after.
Sorry to disappear for several days there, but I’ve been incommunicado. I wasn’t abandoning my 100 Days of Scouting efforts, I was immersed in a totally new (to me) Scouting environment: Girl Scout encampments. I’ve stopped counting how many bag nights I’ve had camping as a Scout leader since getting back into the movement in…
Six Webelos scouts crossed over into the Boy Scout Program on Wednesday, February 16, Cub Scout Pack 4477 held their annual Blue and Gold banquet at Lannoye Grade School in Pulaski, Wisconsin. Tiger Scouts, Wolf Scouts, Bear Scouts and Webelos celebrated their accomplishments with an awards presentation.
Wolf Den Meeting Plan for Achievement 7 – Your Living World
Ian Whitaker, an 8 year old Cub Scout from Mt. Vernon Ohio has been awarded the Boy Scouts of America Heroism Medal for his quick and decisive actions in administering first aid to his injured Grandfather. The Heroism medal is one of the highest honors a Scout can receive.
Art Merit Badge Wednesday again--and super busy! All of the sunshine pouring in my window is not helping either... It is almost as though my company can remotely sense that this is a busy night for Scouting. But that is part of the rush of excitement that will propel me through the meetings tonight!
Tonight I am going to induct my five Webelos II’s into the Order of the Fork. I have been trying to restart this tradition in our pack for four years, but keep forgetting at each campout. So tonight over pizza they will be “forked in” and become members.
Tomorrow is the last regularly scheduled Lightning Dragon den meeting. It should be pretty productive too. Lots to get accomplished. On the list of things to do: Gathering - Collect homework / sign off on AOL for the last 2 boys in the den to be completed (they both had to finish the Showman Activity Badge) / Set…
The Scouter Mom blog posted an article today that caught my attention, and moved me to action. The article was about Cub Scout Trading Cards, similar to baseball trading cards. She described it as a possible den or pack project.
With baseball season right around the corner, let your Cub Scouts make their own trading cards with "Cub Scout stats". This Cub Scout craft works great with any sports themed den or pack meeting.
Bear Den Meeting Plan – Sharing Your World with Wildlife
For this meeting plan, you will need to take a field trip to a zoo, nature center, wildlife preserve, or similar location. Don't forget to put the "outing" in Cub Scouting every now and then.
1930 brought on a significant addition to Scouting with the development of Cub Scouting for younger boys. Used by permission. Boy Scouts of America® All Rights Reserved. In the early years of the BSA, leaders recognized what they called a "younger boy problem," meaning that boys below the age of 12 were watching their older…
I'm starting a day late, but "100 Days of Scouting" wagon's moving slow enough I figure I can climb on. Day 1: Had two scoutmaster conferences in the afternoon. One was with a neighbor Webelos scout fulfilling his Arrow of Light requirements and thinking of joining our troop.
American Cultures Merit Badge Wednesday is still the most hectic Scouting day of my week. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, email, calendar corrections, meeting plans, trips to the store, and merit badge counseling. Oh...and blogging, confirming appointments for other Scouting events, Blue and Gold updates...you get the idea.
“What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.” -T.S. Eliot Today marks the 101st birthday of the Boy Scouts of America! I know how we’ll be opening our pack meeting tonight, maybe with a little singing?
Tonight is our Blue and Gold dinner...I still have an active role in the pack, as the 2nd Assistant Cubmaster. I took on the role after seeing some issues with a couple of the younger dens, and asked the Cubmaster if he needed a hand.
Tomorrow is a big day. Scouts--and Scouters--all over America will celebrate the birthday of Scouting. 101 years strong and already taking on a new century. It is also the beginning of 100 Days of Scouting . Tomorrow is Day 1, where each and every day I will log in what I've done for Scouting that day.
ClassB® celebrated Pinewood Derby® season this year by launching our own Pinewood Derby event last week. All staff were invited to design and build their own car, with prizes being awarded for "best design" and "fastest." Cars were built using official Pinewood Derby kits and had to weigh in at 5 oz.
Today I am posting another den meeting plan for Webelos Engineer activity badge. This meeting plan, along with the first meeting plan, completes all of the requirements.
Webelos Engineer Activity Badge Den Meeting Plan Part 1
When we were working on the Engineer activity badge, I told my Webelos that engineering is all about looking at a problem, considering the resources at your disposal, and then finding a solution.
It is a gadget I would like to get, but I do not have one yet. Even my mother would like to have one after playing with the one my sister-in-law owns. I am sure many of you would like one if you do not already own one.
