Geocaching is the perfect mix of outdoors fun and high-tech gadgets. That explains why it's such a hit with today's Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers. Take the participants of the Race to 2010, for example. The BSA just released the list of winners of that exciting race.

I shamelessly snagged this idea from here. This is a GREAT project for Webelos scouts working on their Craftsman Activity Badge. All that is needed is a 1 foot piece of 1″x3″ pine and 4 ea 2″ drywall screws. Total cost per scout shouldn’t be more than about $1.00.
44 Scouts and about the same number of adults participated in the 2010 Webelos Woods event at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary and in spite of the rain, no one showed any signs of displeasure in the events offered nor were their spirits dampened by the precipitation that fell throughout the day.
Labor Day, now marks 5 days away from the Webelos Woods event that I have spent months to plan with my scout friends Shawn Cleary, Bob Hawkins, and Pat Laes. The event, which will be held on Sat. Its that time of the year again when District Membership chairs, Troop and Pack Committee Chairs, and leaders all over Scouting start seeking out the future of the program. Yes ladies and gentlemen, its recruiting season in the BSA and the fever pitch ramping up.
“No girls! For a whole week! Oh yeah!” That’s what my son (Webelos II, 90% done with Arrow of Light and slacking hard) has been saying, anyway. Because this morning I dropped off my daughter (Jr. Girl Scout, Bronze Award recipient) and my wife (Juliette Coordinator for the NOVA Service Unit of Girl Scouts of…

Cub Scouting means "doing." Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things. Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting-citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Many of the activities happen right in the den and pack.
The Boy Scouts of America seems to have cornered the market on scouting awards for all levels of the scout program and if one looks to other scouting programs in other countries; you will never find more available awards to honor scouts with than within the BSA.
Okay...sorry folks...the rant is on! As the former Webelos to Scout Transitions Chair in Voyageur District, I am getting a bit tired of hearing how the transition numbers are not up to par when a program was suggested that does retain scouts, promotes the next step within the scouting program, and gets parents to become…

Video Game Belt Loop to mental fitness or addiction awareness
-7 Vote On Idea What if we discontinue the video game belt loop and replace it with an "addiction awareness" belt loop or "mental fitness" belt loop? Kids do play video games, but it is when it becomes an addiction that the problems begin.
6 Vote On Idea Background: Most new DLs do not get well oriented and equipped before they start den meetings. BSA research say 27% of new Cubs who join in Sept-Oct, have already quit by next recharter (3-4 months later).
Hello fellow Scouters, This past Saturday, my council (the San Diego-Imperial Council) had its annual Scout Fair, in the parking lot of San Diego's football stadium. It's an event they hold each year, and every year it's so much fun.
Today I: Updated a previous 100 Days of Scouting , to reflect a Scoutmaster Conference successfully had on our campout Saturday. Continued my quest for a fairly inexpensive, 15 degree-ish, mummy-style sleeping bag. I'm a big guy and not having much luck.
Today I: Drove to the Scout store to pick up all of my awards for tonight--last minute trip! Filled out approximately 75 award cards by hand. Cub Scout Academics and Sports awards are the best! My guys love earning them, and apparently trying to see which is the weirdest one they can earn.
Last month, we told you about Jeff Gordon's pinewood derby race against Atlanta-area Cub Scouts . You read about how Fox's national broadcast team was there to film a special story to air before Gordon's big NASCAR race. But then something came up, and you missed the 90-second piece.
-5 Vote On Idea I will start with a bit of history so you can understand where I'm coming from. I have 4 children, 3 boys and 1 girl. My older boys have been involved with Scouts for 6 years now, starting as a Tiger and a Bear and both are now Boy Scouts.
