Provide Scoutmasters with a copy of the quarterly NESA "Eaglette
1 Vote On Idea The quarterly National Eagle Scout Association's magazine (Eagletter) can be both informative and inspiring. Unfortunately, the only people who usually get to see it are Eagle Scouts (assuming they have registered for the NESA) and their families.

Baylor Researchers Launch Study of Prosocial Benefits of Scouting
According to the Scout Law, a Boy Scout is "Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent." But does he stay that way as he grows up? That's a question never scientifically studied — until now.
Today was the Eagle Court of Honor for 5 incredible Scouts. While I have just only been their Scoutmaster since March I have known and worked with them all for several years. It was a great celebration of several Scouting careers.
This is a great article that was run in the December 6th, 2009 edition of the Houston Chronicle. Thanks go out to Michelle, who is the proud mom of one of our Eagles, Casey, for finding this gem. Learning Life's Lessons On Path To Eagle Scout by Chase Untermeyer One of Houston's leading citizens, bearing…
Ever since the Eagle Scout Award was first presented in 1912, families have been creating Eagle Scout scrapbooks to make these precious boyhood memories last. Well, it's time to take that nearly century-old process into the next 100 years of Scouting.
The Standard Times has an article about a man who was able to be awarded his Eagle Scout award, 36 years later, after delivering a package to a Concho Valley Council Office Manager: Saturday morning, Boy Scout Troop 20, sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church, named San Angelo's five newest Eagle Scouts.
This week marked the 10 year anniversary of the Texas A&M Bonfire tragedy. The bonfire was an Aggie tradition since 1909, and was a symbol of the burning desire of Texas A&M to beat the University of Texas longhorns. On November 18th, 1999, at 2:42am the stack of logs collapsed killing eleven students and one…
An update to the story about the City of Allentown, and the union eyeing up an Eagle Project that took place in a city park. Fox News has an update about the situation: Nick Balzano, president of the Service Employees International Union's Allentown chapter, said last week that the union might file a grievance against…
U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton of Missouri told about 500 people from Boy Scouts' National Capital Area Council that the values of Boy Scouts and the military are constant and that both organizations seek to serve something greater than themselves. This was the first Scout dinner saluting the military.
This post is not a news release or story, it is my personal opinion… I have for the past few months, after seeing a promotion for it on the National Eagle Scout Association website , been excited for the release of myNESA.org .
The Morning Call has an article about an Eagle Scout project that has caused some problems with a local union: In pursuit of an Eagle Scout badge, Kevin Anderson, 17, has toiled for more than 200 hours hours over several weeks to clear a walking path in an east Allentown park.
WDAF-TV out of Kansas City , Missouri, featured a story about an Eagle Scout who noticed the signs of Carbon Monoxide poisoning and was able to get his family out of his house and to safety.
Bill S., our newest Eagle This evening Bill S. passed his Eagle Board of Review, which I had the honor to sit on. All of the board members were impressed with his answers, and feel that he is very deserving of the award.
Avoiding Eagle Scout Drama - part 4 -The Eagle Project
Open the Eagle Scout Project Workbook (opens PDF file) and you will find about 2 1/2 half pages of instructions about conducting the project written in less than 1000 words (966 to be exact). Google the words "Eagle Scout Project" and you'll get about 1.4 million references.
The Suburban Journal has an interesting feature on the company that creates the Eagle Scout Award Kits, check it out: When David Bouchein won his Eagle Scout medal in the 1970s he had no idea of the prominence that award would play later in his life.
At an Eagle Scout's court of honor, the scout is recognized for his accomplishments and presented with a nice Eagle Scout medal. As the Eagle Scout is created through a process of building smaller parts into a whole, the eagle medal goes through a similar process.
So far we have determined that needless drama can be caused when a Scoutmaster seeks to impose his ideal vision of an Eagle Scout on the advancement process. In addition we have discovered Baden Powell founded Scouting on the idea that it would offer Scouts a way to challenge themselves towards achievement on an individual…
Recently I had a chat with a number of the Scouts in my troop about their Eagle Projects. Landscaping, fence building, compost bins, flag pole/ memorials etc... were among the list of ideas that hit the table as these young men begin the process of completeling their Eagle requirements.
Scoutmasters need to understand what makes Scouting different from everything else - why young men and women have been Scouts all over the world for the past century. Scouting's founder Baden-Powell envisioned a movement that would give everyone the opportunity to challenge and achievement based not on a single standard of performance but on a highly…
During my tenure as Scoutmaster I have worked with 50 Scouts who have earned the rank of Eagle. Becoming an Eagle Scout is beset by difficulties and so should it be, it is supposed to be challenging. Unfortunately these normal difficulties are often compounded by totally unnecessary complications that we'll call drama.
Highlands Today features an interesting article about an Eagle Scout project: As long as they are not still feathered and squawking, Sebring High school freshman Joseph De Genaro wants your turkeys. The 14-year-old Boy Scout has launched an ambitious service project aimed at feeding hundreds of Highlands County families this holiday season by collecting or…

The 2010 applications can be found here: http://www.nesa.org/applications.html In 2009, just over 4,500 applications were received for the 109 scholarships awarded.
Here is a request for help to support a fellow Eagle Scout in need of our assistance: I've recieved a few messages about Matt the Eagle Scout who was suspened from school for 4 weeks for a 2 inch pocket knife in his car.
From Cub Scouts to Eagle Scouts, Zero Tolerance Policies Stike Again
If you've been paying attention to the news lately, you've probably caught another rash of Scouts, good kids, being suspended under Zero Tolerance Weapon policies. Zachary Christie, a first grader, was suspended for 45 days after bringing a multi-utensil tool that he used camping to school.
Four Eagle Scouts from the Lincoln Heritage Council were asked to provide the Color Guard for the grand opening of the new Regional FBI Headquarters in Louisville, KY. The $40 million facility is a block away from the council office which was built in 2007.
Here's an exchange from Ask Andy (an online column from a long-time Scouter and Unit Commissioner) about Eagle Projects. There's a couple of levels of information going on in this exchange. First of all Andy does a good job of clarifying what actual policy is regarding Eagle Projects.
The Eagle Project is one of the biggest challenges to attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. For many Scouts it is probably the first time they have ever had to plan, prepare, and conduct such an activity.
Life Scout Alex Griffith was born in the Siberian region of Russia. As an Eagle project Alex chose to build a playground at the orphanage in Russia where his foster parents adopted him. 634 people who contributed time, expertise, material or money (106 from Russia) 78 cities where help came from 23 states where help…
1 Vote On Idea In our Council, whenever an Eagle Applicant submits their paperwork, they seem to forget or look over the fine print of this requirement. I wonder if they might include a section for the requirement #6 in the project workbook.
When I first made the sidebar area to promote Mr. Townley's newest book, I wasn't sure if I would really like it. In the end though, I was very pleased with how it worked out . I also said I'd be doing something like it in the future.
7 Vote On Idea On the Eagle Application why does Requirement #6 have two parts? Many scouts miss the second part which is their statement of ambitions and life purpose, and listing of postions held, etc. Can this requirement be made into #7 so we don't have to call the scout and say we need…

The Great Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the National Eagle Scout Association have selected Lt. Governor Peter Kinder as a recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. Lt. Governor Kinder was notified of the honor by the Great Rivers Council earlier this month.
Alvin Townley's book Spirit of Adventure is a refreshing read that validates the values of Scouting and a book that ought to be in your Scouting library. Too often we hear about all the things gone wrong in the world around us.
2 Vote On Idea A real Innovation idea... We have found 350,000 Eagle Scouts in 2 years...that's good. Let's find 350,000 more in 2 weeks!!! Contact FaceBook and ask them to create a place in their profile page to select Eagle Scout as an "Alumni Group".
Congratulations to New Eagle Scout Robert Rubano, 47 Years Young Robert Rubano, Scoutmaster of Troop 24 in New Dorp, Staten Island, finally earned the Eagle Scout rank, almost 30 years past his 18th birthday, the cut-off for such an achievement.
NESA selects Gov. Nixon to receive Distinguished Eagle Scout Award
Officials with the Great Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America have notified Gov. Jay Nixon that he has been selected to receive the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (DESA). Of those Scouts who have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, fewer than one in 1,000 have received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.
Effective August 1, 2009, the national office will no longer accept Eagle applications prior to the 2009 printing. The new Eagle Scout application (512-728) can be found on scouting.org. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/512-728_web.pdf .
Here is a description of the DSA or Distinguished Service Award: The Distinguished Service Award was created in 1940 to honor those who rendered service to the Order beyond the lodge level. The award is presented to those Arrowmen who have rendered distinguished and outstanding service to the Order on a sectional, regional, or national…
The Gulf Coast Council Scouter Jul/Aug 2009 Issue highlights a story about Life Scout Ryan Funk who built a Chimpanzee Play Gym. For his Eagle Project, Life Scout, Ryan Funk decided to build a Play Gym for the chimpanzees at the Gulf Breeze Zoo in Florida.
Here is the story from Scouting.org about the 2 millionth Eagle Scout: Anthony Thomas to Represent 97 Years of Scouting Tradition and Honor, Serve as Youth Representative at BSA 100th Anniversary Events Anthony Thomas, Lakeville, Minn. View the Value of Scouting story.
1 Vote On Idea If we're supposed to be turning out the best of the best as Eagle Scouts, can anyone tell me why Scholarship Merit Badge and Public Speaking Merit Badges are not required for Eagle rank? Scholarship goes without saying.
Three Pearland Boy Scouts from BSA Troop 486 were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in a Court of Honor ceremony conducted onboard the main deck of Battleship TEXAS. The Saturday, June 6 ceremony conferred the highest rank in Boy Scouts upon Jon-Michael Hensley, his brother Kirby Hensley, and Gavin Coulson.
If you're like us, reading Scouting magazine's exclusive excerpts from Alvin Townley's Spirit of Adventure helped increase your appetite for more great stories about Eagle Scouts. So, in search of additional inspiring and exciting stories, you picked up a copy of the book (pictured above) at most major booksellers or Amazon.com .
This past Saturday, I had the pleasure in participating in another Eagle Scout court of honor and I cannot tell you what is means to me to watch a court of honor of this magnitude let alone be a participant in one.
You probably noticed a change to the home page of HalfEagle. Namely, that block in the right sidebar with a picture of the cover of "Spirit of Adventure" and some links to book reviews by HalfEagle's Scouting bloggers. A gentleman working with the publisher of the book had contacted myself and a number of prominent…
To describe one Minnesota teenager as "one in a million" is an understatement – by half. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announces that Anthony Thomas, has been named the 2 millionth Eagle Scout since the first Eagle badge was awarded in 1912.
The rank of Eagle Scout , Boy Scouting's highest honor, is something to be taken seriously. The family, troop, and Eagle Scout will spend a lot of time planning the Eagle Court of Honor. In recent years, a video of the Eagle Scout's years as a Cub and Boy Scout has become a common part of…
Anthony Thomas of Troop 3471 here in Northern Star Council (I believe Burnsville, MN) has been recognized as the 2,000,000th Eagle Scout yesterday. How cool is that? Arthur Eldred of New York was the first Eagle Scout in 1912, so it's been a busy 96 years. Congratulations, Anthony! Scout On
