Scouts and Scouters across the nation can rejoice because tomorrow, Thursday, July 16, 2015, is officially “Order of the Arrow Centennial Day” in the state of Maryland! Maryland’s Governor Larry Hogan signed a proclamation which details the importance of the Order of the Arrow’s 100 th Anniversary and urges “all citizens to support this observance.”
You were given a preview of the trader's two patch set in May. Yesterday I wrote a post about the participant's set. But did you know there is one more option available for the Naguonabe Lodge members who will be participating in this year's National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC)?
It was over a month ago when I wrote a post about the Naguonabe Lodge's patch design for the 2015 National Order of the Arrow Conference, otherwise known as NOAC. The two patch set also commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow.
Follow these steps, brilliantly devised by National OA Committee Chairman Ray Capp, to keep OA elections from becoming a popularity contest.
This summer, contingents of Arrowmen are hitting the road to deliver the message that Scouting is building new adventures to keep our movement fun, challenging and relevant to America’s youth. These Scouts are helping to celebrate the 100 th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow — Scouting’s national honor society.
This year, the Order of the Arrow (OA) is celebrating its centennial anniversary with a myriad of programs, awards and special events. One way the OA is celebrating is ArrowTour: an interactive program for Scouts, volunteers and Scouting alumni that will travel throughout the country during the summer of 2015.
The Naguonabe Lodge of the Central Minnesota Council began handing out patches to its members that are attending the 2015 National Order of the Arrow Conclave during this weekend's spring conclave. Once again, it will be a two patch set, but unlike previous year's these patches do not match into each other and do not…
The BSA’s highest honor for adults is not handed out to just anyone. Silver Buffaloes are rare and the title is hard-earned for adult volunteers who pour tremendous dedication into Scouting and the BSA. As the National Annual Meeting in Atlanta wraps up, the honor and accompanying red and white medals are about to be…
This year for the third time in the history of the Order of the Arrow a patch may be worn on the Sash. This patch represents the Centuries of Service Award available for all Arrowmen to earn this year. The program started in July of 2014 and will conclude in December of 2015.
When inducted into the OA (Scouting's honor society) you get a sense of brotherhood that stays with you for life. But can you be a life member of the OA?
Are you an Arrowman who’s ready to be challenged mentally, physically, and spiritually in the great outdoors? If you are up to the challenge, join the Order of the Arrow Trail Crew for a 14-day adventure at Philmont Scout Ranch!
At the 2015 National Order of the Arrow Conference, a Centennial Fire will burn with wood from every OA lodge. But what type of wood will be used?
While it is true that we don't need no stinking badges… We do have a need for patches and lots of them. If you follow me on Facebook, you may have noticed that I am in a patch phase. Well truth be told, I have been a patch guy for a long time, but until…
Commemorating the Order of the Arrow’s 100th anniversary, the Summit Bechtel Reserve will host ArrowTour for it’s 2015 centennial celebration! What’s ArrowTour, you ask? It’s a summer-long, interactive event for Scouts, volunteers, and Scouting alumni, and this year, it’s bigger than ever.
The Summit Bechtel Reserve is excited to announce it will celebrate the Order of the Arrow's centennial as an ArrowTour host. ArrowTour is an interactive event for Scouts, volunteers, and Scouting alumni that will travel throughout the country during the summer of 2015.
Over the past two weeks we have had a wonderful Scouting experience learning about the fantastic people that we have in Scouting. Our Council Court of Honor was held a few weeks back honoring those that received their Silver Beaver award this year.
Keep in the loop with Report to the Nation by following @OANationalChief. You'll get a first-person account from Alex Call, Eagle Scout and Arrowman.
Youth and adult members of the Order of the Arrow are eligible to earn the Arrowman Service Award, a special patch authorized for wear on your OA sash.
As part of the Order of the Arrow's centennial anniversary, the Centurion Award has been made available for local lodges to submit nominations. The Centurion Award aims to highlight "Hometown Heroes," or Arrowmen who have meaningfully contributed to the forming, maturing, and ongoing operational excellence of their local council's lodge, and who, in doing so…
I'm always on the hunt for interesting Scouting history articles. Here's a good one to about the history of the Order of the Arrow logo. I've seen many of the various handbook covers over the years, and have seen how the images have changed, but this article ties it all together.
Before our youngest son left for college, he wanted to get a tattoo. I am not a big fan of "ink" even though I now have two tattoos. But that was something he wanted and to top it off, he wanted me to get one with him.
Wow! 10,000 Arrowmen already signed up for next August. It'll be an event to remember. Let's see if Thing 1 and I can get into our council's contingent... https://www.facebook.com/oabsa
Thing 1 and I had the pleasure of joining 500 other Arrowmen at the Section W3N Conclave this weekend. Lodges Amangi Nacha (my lodge), Orca, Talako, Tannu, and Ut-in Selica make up Section W3N. One of the really fun parts was the size of this conclave, one of the biggest for our section yet.
If your Order of the Arrow lodge plans a council camp or service center project during 2015, you can apply now for a 2015 OA Matching Service Grant. All lodges applying for the grant must have been a 2013 JTE Lodge (bronze level or higher) and should not have received a grant from the OA…
At the May 2014 BSA national annual meeting, the national Order of the Arrow committee accepted a resolution that OA LodgeMaster (OALM) become the sole means of submitting lodge charter and Journey to Excellence (JTE) petitions. As my son goes through his journey in Scouting, I see the fun he is having and the good friends he is making. The excitement he has is contagious, and brings me joy to share some of those experiences with him.
Next year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Order of the Arrow (OA), scouting's honor society. I expect the National OA Conference (NOAC) will be huge. Thing 1 was just inducted into the OA this year, he's already talking about wanting to go (he needs to start saving his money...).
Adult women may be inducted into the Order of the Arrow, but women under 21 aren't allowed in the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts.
As if you needed another reason to attend NOAC next summer. You know the National Order of the Arrow Conference is the OA's signature event. You know 2015 is the Order of the Arrow's 100th Anniversary. Right there you've got two incredible reasons to attend on Aug.
Maybe it's that I am getting a little older. Could be that my mind tends to view things a little different with the kids growing and moving on with their lives. It may be that I have a clearer understanding of what is really important in my life.
The Order of the Arrow has two campership programs available to provide Scouts with greater opportunities to attend summer camp. The Maury Clancy American Indian Campership and Get Kids to Camp Partnership have been funded by the Order of the Arrow Endowment to provide $20,000 each in support during 2014.

This weekend was spent rekindling the fire of the Order of the Arrow in me. I attended our Lodges annual gathering called Rendezvous. Our Lodge hosts three major events each year. The Native American Arts and Ceremonies Seminar, The Rendezvous of the Order, and The Leadership Development Conference.
An Eagle Scout from Maryland, the young woman serving as National Venturing President and a Cub Scout from Sandy Hook, Conn., are among the nine young people selected to represent the Boy Scouts of America during this week's Report to the Nation in Washington, D.C.
Monday night our Troop held its annual Order of the Arrow election and its six month youth leadership election. Our Troop elections are like most Troops in that we hold the elections for youth leadership. We may differ in this aspect, we only elect the "assistants".
I do not talk much about the Order of the Arrow on this blog, and maybe I should. I have not received a lot of requests for OA topics, but over the past few months I have been giving the Order of the Arrow a bit more thought.
Most of us involved in the Scouting program either know or have heard of the Philmont Grace, the official meal prayer for Philmont Scout Ranch. But did you know the Order of the Arrow has one now? This was recently posted on the Naguonabe Lodge Facebook page: The National Order of the Arrow Committee has…
That bright red arrow atop a crisp white band is an unmistakeable symbol that the wearer is one of Scouting's best. The sash is an outward sign that the man or woman wearing it is a member of the Order of the Arrow , Scouting's national honor society.

The Order of the Arrow is not a secret society, but in some troops it might as well be. These troops go through the first steps of getting Scouts elected into Scouting's national honor society and through their Ordeal. But after that, these new Arrowmen become ghosts, never seen at a lodge meeting, dance event…
I am sure that I have said this before in the blog, and I know this to have some truth as I have often experienced that there are themes that seem to crop up from time to time in our lives.
