Today is Founder's Day (opens in a new tab)

Nick's Ramblings UK ·

Today, 22nd February, is Founder's Day for Scouts or Thinking Day for Guides and Girl Scouts. It marks the birthday of Baden-Powell and, coincidentally, his wife. Today is the day we remember BP, his life and work. The WOSM have issued a small video of BP to mark Founder's Day (it's quite amusing too!).

Courteous

The Scoutmaster Minute ·

The 5th point of the Scout Law tells us to be Courteous. The other night as our Troop camped on the Oregon Coast we had an opportunity to discuss this fine point of the law. You see, it seems that some of the Scouts did not understand the difference between having fun and being disrespectful.

Update ProTalk

0 Vote On Idea One thing I wish they would put more focus on is ProTalk. These audio training sessions I found very informative and helpful. I spend a great deal of time driving and would appreciate having a podcast of sorts especially for professionals to listen to.

Marketing the 100th Anniversery in Public Libraries and Schools

BSA Innovation Engine ·

1 Vote On Idea Libraries and to a lesser degree schools are looking for displays in their lobbies. Can National put together a set of pre-made stickers, posters, flyers that Unit Serving Execs can use to create displays in these venues during February 2010.

Just a thought

-2 Vote On Idea Every Council in America has it's own form of fundraising venture whether it be popcorn, magazines, candy or whatever. I am sure all Councils would agree that the single most important attribute to success in every Council is Scout involvement.

Revenge is Dangerous (opens in a new tab)

Lone Star Scouter ·

Revenge is a Dangerous thing. It is best to never seek revenge, and sometimes it takes a lot of self-control to do so, but people are always better off when they learn to forgive and to let go of vengeful thoughts and actions.

Scouts Withdrawals (opens in a new tab)

Lone Star Scouter ·

Hi all from chilly Atlanta, GA. This post finds me missing the troop and crew terribly while I tend to family business far from Houston. Some might consider missing a boy scout meeting to be no big deal, even two.

Endowment Clip Art

BSA Innovation Engine ·

1 Vote On Idea The MyBSA photo and logo resource provides a wealth of images - until a council looks for black/white or full-color endowment logos: James E. West, 1910 Society, Founders Circle, and Heritage Society. Based on a call from a council, I looked and - if they exist - they are not intuitively filed.

Brand Identity Guide Fonts

0 Vote On Idea The "preferred" font in the Brand Identity Guide (p30) is a licensed font. To eliminate the need to purchase a font, why not make one of fonts already available in Microsoft office the "preferred" font. Trouble Maker Do's and Don'ts (opens in a new tab)

Scouting Maniac ·

One of the biggest headaches and heartaches in scouting does not come from failed activities or meetings it comes from figuring out how to deal with those pesky scouts that are determined to be troublemakers. I dislike using that term because it has such a negative connotation attached to it.

Aging Out (opens in a new tab)

Scoutmaster Musings ·

There's nothing I enjoy more in scouting than kicking a scout out. When new scouts join, one of the first things I tell them is that my hope is to kick them out. I don't really care if they reach Eagle or not because that is completely up to them.
