Youth Protection Training Update

BSA Innovation Engine ·

0 Vote On Idea On the online Youth Protection Training course there is a slide that needs to be changed. It is in one of the sections where you have to identify which scenario would be right...if a youth could visit with a Scoutmaster in his tent.

Scouting in the Movies

BSA Innovation Engine ·

0 Vote On Idea With Pixar's new movie "Up" being released in two months and it's advertizing prominently displaying a "Wilderness Explorer" as one of the main characters, I have to wonder why he couldn't be a Boy Scout instead?

Something seems to be wrong

The Scoutmaster Minute ·

For some reason www.thescoutmasterminute.com is not working properly. I am working on getting this fixed. Please be patient and we will get to the bottom of this as soon as possible. Have a Great Scouting Day!

The Slow Death of Nature (opens in a new tab)

Scoutmaster Musings ·

My two sons would just as soon spend 3 or 4 hours playing computer games than interact with real people. But, who can blame them? With the amazing graphics, sound, and practically real interaction, games these days are nearly "like being there".

Auto renew and the PCT

The Scoutmaster Minute ·

It looks like the "AUTO RENEW" feature from Blogger is less than effective. The statements says it was renewed, but the site failed to do so. So... it looks like I will be using the old format for at least a while till it is fixed.

MSPP #64: The Bear Hunt (opens in a new tab)

A Scoutmaster's Blog · archived copy

The Bear Hunt. Through the wheat fields, over trees, through the lakes, into the cave. It is challenging. It is rowdy. And it is loud if you have a room full of Cub or Boy Scouts and their leaders. This skit has been with the Scouting program for decades, maybe even longer, and is probably…

Backpacking Tip of the Week

The Scoutmaster Minute ·

This Backpacking tip of the week is from my good buddie Gary J. He sends a tip about the ever so famous "Sham Wow!" Carry a large ShamWow towel and use it as a clothes wringer. Wash out your t shirt, sox, etc.

Take a trip into Scouting history

Bryan on Scouting / On Scouting ·

We love to hear a great story around a crackling campfire. But we love it even more when it comes straight from the source-especially the story of the Boy Scouts of America. What you've read about the BSA in books or passed on to eager boys at pack or troop meetings only grazes the surface.

ESL Merit Badge

BSA Innovation Engine ·

0 Vote On Idea Bob Lucas 804-270-1026 is not a volunteer just a citizen, he was watching the news where Brian Williams was talking about the Hispanic youth joining. He thought of a way to try and reach out to them.

Celebrate the Circle of Life Merit Badge

BSA Innovation Engine ·

-3 Vote On Idea Loss, death and grief are a normal part of the circle of life. Boy Scouts offers a safe and comfortable environment where boys can begin to learn, talk and ask questions about the often confusing life journey.

Pharmacy Merit Badge

BSA Innovation Engine ·

-1 Vote On Idea Being a service profession, pharmacy is a great match for Scouts. It involves helping people at all times and in recent years a number of national surveys have concluded that pharmacists are the most trusted professionals.

Modify the Unit Charter Process

BSA Innovation Engine ·

0 Vote On Idea Has anyone considered making a modification to the Unit Charter process in the following way? Increase the fee to say $40.00 or $50.00 and providing all the current relevant (Unit Committee, Advancement, Guide to Safe Scouting, MB Requirements etc.)

Professional Dress Uniform

BSA Innovation Engine ·

1 Vote On Idea While we are changing our scout uniforms to changing tastes and styles, why don't we think about changing our professional dress uniform to something more hip as well? Also, it would be an inexpensive change for National, since we buy our own jackets, slacks, etc.. Comments (0) Category/Tags : 100th Anniversary (19)

Cracker Barrel online (opens in a new tab)

ScoutSigns ·

Cracker barrel is a time for Scouts and Scouters to share a drink, some food, and lots of good camaraderie. And Scouting magazine gives us another great definition! Check it out ! Do you use Scouting magazine's online site? What do you like the most? Post your comment and thoughts about it!

Online Advertisment and registration for youth and adults

BSA Innovation Engine ·

1 Vote On Idea I propose that we drive folks to beascout.org then have the ability for them to acutually join Scouting there with an online application that can be emailed to the local council. Payment can be taken care of using pay pal, billmelater or Credit Card.

Knot of the Week: Tiger Cub Den Leader Award

Bryan on Scouting / On Scouting ·

The diamond-shaped Tiger Cub award is usually the first patch a young Cub Scout receives. These first-graders search, discover, and share -hey, that's the Tiger Cub motto-as they complete 15 fun-filled requirements for the orange and yellow award. Similarly, the Tiger Cub Den Leader Award is often the first square knot a new Scouter earns.

Replace position codes with names

BSA Innovation Engine ·

0 Vote On Idea When viewing a volunteers Personal Profile, can you add a field that lists the volunteers position name instead of (or in addition to) the position code. It is more helpful to know that a volunteer was a "Cubmaster" or "District Commissioner" instead of a "42" or a "79".

Adult Eagle Award

BSA Innovation Engine ·

-38 Vote On Idea From one of my volunteer's Any thoughts of allowing adults who did not attain the rank of Eagle as a youth because they could not meet the requirements due to health reasons and before there was alternative merit badges.

Tuesday, March 24th, while on an outing at the Shawano Recreation Center pool, Wolf Cub Scout Hunter Vincent of Pack 3024 went under water. Several members of the group immediately called for assistance from the lifeguards on duty and one of the volunteer parents, who is a paramedic, immediately administered CPR.
