Bryan on Scouting / On Scouting ·

It doesn't matter whether you've been a Scouting volunteer for five months or 50 years-your role in the lives of youth has equal importance. Still, you've got to be inspired by volunteers who have given decades of their lives to the program.

From the Committee Chair ·

Last weekend, the Troop made its way to Shipman, VA, which is between Charlottesville and Lynchburg on US 29. It was sort of an introduction to basic backpacking and primitive camping for the newest members of the Troop. They backpacked in about a mile and then set up camp around a small lake.

What a Weekend: Call for entries

Bryan on Scouting / On Scouting ·

The weekend's almost here. That means that you can start daydreaming about another great trip with your Scouting unit. If you close your eyes, your office transforms… That's not microwave popcorn you hear down the hall-that's a crackling campfire. The icy draft you feel isn't the always-too-cold air conditioner-it's a crisp mountain breeze.

Emblems for Adult Leaders with Special Medical Training

BSA Innovation Engine ·

11 Vote On Idea I am writing this to suggest that the Boy Scouts may wish to consider a new set of emblems for the adult leaders that have special medical training. These emblems would be worn on the left shirt pocket of the leader thus saving time in identifying them in any emergency situation.

Scouting in the News: April 3, 2009

Bryan on Scouting / On Scouting ·

With great Scouting stories from across the country, just waiting to be told, newspapers and other media outlets are catching on. Here are some recent highlights: So much for resting on his laurels. Instead of polishing his many Scouting awards from a 50-year career, this Connecticut man has rejoined Scouting -at age 89.

Topdown/Bottom-up

BSA Innovation Engine ·

1 Vote On Idea It would be great to assemble a team to develop a wellness program that facilitates a regular fitness regimen for interested BSA employees. This would allow BSA to lead by example as well as reap the benefits of lower health insurance costs and improved worker performance.

Camp Standards numbering system

BSA Innovation Engine ·

0 Vote On Idea Revise the numbering system for the National Camp Standards volumes so that the numbers don't change every year. Currently, all of the camp standards are listed in order from 1 to N (2009 Cub Scout / Boy Scout / Venturing resident camps are 1 to 110).

Retention /Direct leaders trained records for units

BSA Innovation Engine ·

0 Vote On Idea If it is not something that the average unit leader can access without someone manually calculating for them, then it should not be a centennial quality item. Either make it available to commissioners and units leaders through MyScouting or come up with alternative requirements.

Mathematics Merit Badge

BSA Innovation Engine ·

0 Vote On Idea Add a new merit badge for mathematics.
